Have been a user of the great info and many perspectives on this forum.

Recently signed up....

I have a titanium grey 2005 8 (6 speed manual) with about 60,000 miles. Have had it for about 3 years. Just love it!

It was owned by the wife of a doctor who basically used it weekends to go to her holiday house down the coast. She didn't strike me as the type who hit the red-line often. The body and trim is in great shape, everything works, no rust etc

Anyway, compression is OK - 109-111 psi on all three faces @ 250rpm @sea level. So hopefully a few miles left in her yet.

The car only gets about 3000 miles a year - weekend drives pretty much; and really only in the cooler months, it throws off too much heat at other times!

I stay on top of the maintenance and premix at about 200:1

Have done a few upgrades:

• Bilstein B8s plus Tein Htechs
• BHR coils
• Better starter

Some things to do:

1. mid pipe (remove the cat as a pint of failure)
2. better thermostat
3. i have a spare set of rims i got cheap that need some repair then going to paint them satin black

Things I am thinking about:

• Seafoam - not so sure about this one

• Adjusting OMP to put in larger pump piston and sleeve from another omp and put it in place of the small pump - this seems like a good move.
• SOHN - not sure about this based on some of the hypothesis by Brettus . Am tossing up the right oil for burning v perhaps less oil flow

Based on my reading not sure about anything else on the must do list and open to any tips.

Welcome! Sounds like you got everything under control. If you are going to do Seafoam just try to use an old set of plugs or before you do your next spark plug change. Tends to ruin them.

 

Cheers & thx for the advice. Yep I kept the first ones i swapped out. Not sure i will do it yet. A little nervous about it so will wait and see.

you are 1 in 1000,

with your compression numbers I would worry about Seafoam,

OMP mod might be a good idea, or the SOHN, ( The tread you read is a really important level of evidence fro those things)

I think I will be steering clear of the seafoam.

I pulled the plugs today and noticed they are been a bit gunky - after 5000 miles. But not too bad.

My fuel trims are fine so I am curious about the premix I am running at about 200:1. I know some people go heavier that this.

I am going to run a couple of tanks with no premix and the have another look.

After that might switch to a different premix and compare - have been using royal purple, I might try idemetsu. Both are expensive but as it is a toy and I don’t drive that much I can spread the costs....

If you still have a cat go with 1/2 oz per gallon. If running catless you can go 1 oz per gallon. That's how I was taught. You can use regular 2 stroke oils, you dont need anything special. I just try to stay away from the marine 2 stroke and use motorcycle 2 stroke.

 

Its pretty specific: JASO FC or FD certified oil. You can run other things, but they won't do what you want them to do.
FD is just FC with more detergents, which is never a bad thing.
