So i did a thing and bought 2 cheap rx8s. A 2004 type-s and 2005 M6, both 6speed.
Im here to try find out some info on exactly what ive brought.
The "M6" i believe is the luxury model? but i cannot find alot of info about it. Model FE It has the leather interior with electric seats which my type s does not have.
The other is a SE3P
Anyone got some extra knowledge of these 2 cars? Thanks!
So figured out the m6 just means manual 6 speed. still working out the differences between the FE and the SE3P. Seems like they are just registered differently the FE being a NZ new 6 speed car (M6) and the SE3P being a Japan Import with the Type-S meaning its 6speed. Essenitaly the same cars with different options/year?
Where are you located? There has never been an M6 edition or a luxury version, unless it's some local branding. Black leather and electric seats is a regular GT in north America, and if it has cloth seats it's a Sport or base model. I'm not sure about japanese Type- equivalents of these. They're all SE3P, that's the chassis code.
If you call a dealer (or even via the Mazda website?) they can tell you exactly what you have by the VIN.
Are you sure someone didn't stick a BMW M6 badge on it?
Have a read at rx8help.com for beginner info. It's a good summary of this forum.
M6 probably means 6 speed Manual then.
But weird, you have 1 car with a North America/ Euro style vin (featuring FE) and 1 car with Japanese VIN (SE3P). All RX8s are FEs and SE3Ps, FE designates the model in the US++ system, SE3P is the chassis number in Mazda native/Japanese nomeclature.
6 speed manual + leather + sunroof? would make it a GT/TypeS/HiPower
