Hey Everyone. New RX-8 owner

Hi everyone. So my wife hated my old car, a 2002 Mercury Cougar C2, and it hated her in return. Long story short it was time to get a new car and get rid of the Cougar. My wife has been telling me for the last couple of years that the next car we got would be a "fun one." And then we found out she was pregnant. So the parameters changed to "a fun car with at least four seats and easy access to the back." I have always wanted an RX-8 since they came out. And it ticked all the boxes very nicely: fun, four seats, and has four doors. So a month ago one popped up in town and we bought a Silver 2010 RX-8 GT with AT (because my wife needs to be able to drive it in a pinch) as my daily driver.

It has 40,000 miles on it, compression tested and the engine is really strong. I wish it revved to 9000 rpm but I regularly redline it to 7500 rpm and drive it in "manual" mode. And I already have some plans for it.

My new (to me) 2010 RX-8 GT w AT.

Welcome! Nice ride. I am partial to the manual ones, but hey a happy wife makes a happy life. Cheers. You have a Series 2 so many of the issues with the Series 1 have been addressed. Glad you got that compression test and it was good. We are all here to help you make the most of it and to help you keep that smile on your face when you drive it. !

RX8 Club’s recommended maintenance schedule, more comprehensive and proactive than Mazda’s schedule.
30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.

Thanks for the schedule. I was planning on doing most of those within the next month or two, doing a little at a time. I wouldn't have thought about cleaning the sensors right now though.

Nice,

Welcome

Congrats.

I was also given the requirement for a 4 door car. When I brought mine home, she claimed I did not listen well enough. I had taken my son with me, so I blamed it on him.

Believe it or not, I think there are some old threads on car seats that work well in this forum.

I may have to search for it in case the one we have now doesn't fit well. I half jokingly told my wife we now needed to get one of those really expensive Recaro car seats. She looked at the price and said not a chance.
