Hey everyone! new member (duh)
Hey, so I just picked up an 04 RX-8 cheap. It'll be my summer project, right now the battery's dead and the owner said it didn't start due to low compression (~35 psi) in the front rotor; the back had 90. Everything else looked clean though, and it was a manual which that made me happy. So I'm expecting to throw some time and money into it before it's running again, but it looks like I've got lots of resources. Over this weekend I'm planning on taking the engine out. Anybody have any tip or tricks I should know about? I've seen rotaryresurrection's thread about engine removal and I'll use that as a guide. And as time goes on I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions as time goes on. Just thought I'd get myself introduced

Welcome, Rotary Resserection's thread is a really good guide for pulling the engine.
What is your plans for a replacement engine? And definately check out the threads from 04Grean.

There are two rotary mechanics in the Miami area which is close to where I live. One's called Turbo Clinic and the other is Mazdapros. Chances are I'll have them rebuild it for me, but I'm really in no rush to get this car running so if I can, I might try to rebuild it myself. But of course if the rotors and housings are busted that won't really be an option. Either way I'm going to get in contact with them for parts. When the seals blow on these engines, do they usually take out the rotors and housings with them? Or is there a pretty good chance that I could just replace the seals?
