Help with the restoration of Mazda RX-8 2006 231
Good afternoon,
Before I start I want to point out that this is my first post and English is not my first language so keep that in mind hahaha.
About 3 weeks ago I bought my first RX-8, a 231 hp 2006 with 127,000 KM, with the clear idea to open the engine and make the necessary maintenance.
After fighting with the 200 electrical connectors stuck the 100 water and vacuum pipes the damn engine mounts that did not want to come out and the flywheel completely hooked we managed to open the engine
.
When we opened it we found that both the hausings and the plates have waves on them, we do not see any scratches as such but if you pass your finger you notice the ondulations.
We have consulted with different mazda's in Spain (where I live) to know the price of a whole new engine, in Spain the engine, less than 1 year ago was sold for 4,500 - 5,000 euros new from mazda, now they are giving me a price of 8000 + VAT about 9500 € which seems to me a very high price ....
At this point I do not know what to do, anyone has any idea where I can find a new engine cheaper, or on the other hand if I do not choose the option of mounting a new engine you know what option would be the best, rectify the plates and buy 2 new hausing ? rectify the plates and hausing ? anyone knows any reliable site to rectify the engine preferably in Spain.
any idea or comments are welcome
Thank you very much in advance

That's about on par with the price for new engines elsewhere. Unfortunately, housing resurfacing services are rare and expensive. You could try Racing Beat in California or Derwin Tuning in Quebec. You could also see about housing or known-good rebuilt engine prices from Rotary Resurrection, Derwin or Pettit Racing, all in North America. That might be the cheapest option given the shipping requirements.
I bought one of the last new engines that were available in the U.S. right before the big supply chain shortage during the pandemic.
We couldn't even find any new ones for several years.
If you can afford it, I would get a new one, for peace of mind.
There might be another shortage, more earthquakes in Japan are going to happen.
I drove mine daily with the original engine for about
10 years and 85,000 miles.
