UK Help compression scared

Dear all

I have taken my car for the complimentary recall new spark plugs which is fine, but my car I am worried has a compression issue..

When it starts especially from cold, it takes a while... seriously annoying, then every time I use the car it has a jumpy idle only by a bit but it clearly is moving between 700 & 950 rpm.. I youtubed it at this seems like a compression issue.. I understand I will need a compression test to check but its all money.

Does anyone know of any other 8's that have failed due to compression with 31k miles on the clock 2006 model.

I am worried as it doesn't have a warrantee and apparently the 100k miles only works prior to the 3 years.. so I am really worried, it doesn't seem to be under powered, seems like 200bhp.. (231) and when driving is perfect but when on idle really struggles to maintain a constant idle without the car vibrating like it wants to stall..

what shall I do? contact Mazda Corporate and explain my worries once I have a compression test if I find out that it is faulty?

Many thanks for any advice.

Kind regards

M

I would not get too excited about a low compression unless you confirm that you do indeed have low compression. Starting times can be an indicator, but there is no rule that says your engine should start within 2 seconds 3 seconds etc. Hot starts are generally where low compression rears it's ugly head. In other words if your car starts fine cold and once it warm, say to stop to fuel up and have trouble restarting it, that is a classic sign of low compression. There are several measures you can take to try and clean up the idle. Clean the MAF sensor, Clean the ESS and the 20 pedal brake stomp procedure. My point is unless you are willing to spend the money for the compression test and confirm your concerns, don't get all bent out of shape.

The engine warranty is good for 8 years or 100,000 miles from the date of purchase (first sale). You can call Mazda and they can give you that information if you don't know it. If your past the warranty period my guess is all the pleading in the world will not yield you a free replacement engine if it's out of warranty. If you do have low compression, yes it will cost you a few Euro, but again GET THE COMPRESSION TEST FIRST.

Edited to add: The British flag your waving led me to use the Euro reference instead of the dollar. However I did not home in on the idea that the Warranty in Europe may not be the same as the warranty in America, so I may have given you bad information regarding the warranty period. Be sure you inquire about that. I apologize for that.

Many thanks .. really appreciate you words of wisdom, have cleaned MAF so next stop is compression test I completely agree.. I will check the date of purchase as I will be very lucky if its still within the 8 years..

Hugely appreciate your help.. car at mazda now so will print out a copy of the warrantee of 8 years and discuss a compression test etc.

Many thanks

mgestic, you are in the UK right? You don't have that extended warranty over there. It was only for the US and Canada.

Otherwise Kevinande is right. Not much point in getting too worried at the moment. Plenty of things can cause trouble starting hot or cold, and until you address those (in the list given), it could still be anything.

Yeah UK im afraid.. its cool all my worrying like a stressed donkey slaving away in the hot sun has paid off, due to the Goods and Service Act 1979 I am entitled to take the car back stating that it is not fit for purpose and does not meet satisfactory quality. This will be enough to either get work completed on vehicle or a refund of my money.

I will be wanting the work done as im a Rotary fan now minus the faults and V10 petrol consumption .. So big thanks to these contributors.

NEXT STOP Compression test.

No worries UK European is same in my opinion.. all part of the EU..

Thanks for your reply, your right, compression test is next.. and possible return of 3 week old vehicle could be stop after compression test..

All good though, these things happen.
