Help
Need some one gracious enough in the nc area Gaston county to be exact to come look at my 04' rx8 and help me figure out what I need to fix on it rotary mechanics are rare around here willing to pay.
Everytime I come to stop it cuts off and takes a while to turn back on.
When I cut the car off to go in a gas station or grocery store same thing.
Idling low rpms.
o2 sensor isn't even connected.

The rear one and the guy i bought it from said he installed a new muffler and couldnt put it back on i thought it was a flooding issue but now im not sure but i will put the o2 sensor on and see if that helps should i change out the spark plugs or ignition coils

Ideally, you should get a compression test done before spending any real money. Would be worthwhile to have Mazda test it for you. The rear O2 sensor isnt as important as the front one. Do you have any engine codes?

A new muffler has nothing to do with the O2 sensor. Are you sure it was just the muffler and not the cat?
If you don't know the age of the coils and spark plugs, replace them. However before any of that, you need a compression test. Difficulty restarting when hot often means loss of compression.

Could be a vacuum leak, clogged cat or a fuel issue. I’m guessing it still has a cat because you don’t have code p0420. If the compression test come back good you should inspect the cat for any damage and find a way to reconnect your rear O2 sensor.

So I found this in the glove box this is the sensor he was talking about but is it an upstream or downstream sensor

Rear O2. The front must still be connected if there’s no code. If you can’t figure it out any exhaust shop could fit it for you. While it’s there get them to inspect your cat by taking it off the car.

It really comes down to compression results. If the engine is shot there is no real point continuing further. You'll just be wasting your money unless you intend to rebuild or replace the engine.
If it passes, we can diagnose further issues.

Need some help with CAT monitor not setting
Hello, don't know if I'm going about this right first time posting. I've tried everything to get this cat monitor and o2 monitor to run on my vehicle. It's been about 800 miles now. I've done the drive cycle multiple times. The only thing I notice is I have a U0073 and U1900 for abs can code but don't think that would cause an issue with monitors. I've noticed my LTFT is at 0% all the time and STFT is at 21% at idle with no vacuum leaks if anyone has a little insight it would be much appreciated I can also supply any other info needed. Thank you
