ON Hello, Finally purchased a Rx-8

Hello Everyone,
I’m a Huge Mazda fan and have finally purchased a Mazda rx8 after a long search. Almost purchased 2 r3s over the years but decided to go cheap and build something. I’ve looked at many rx8 over the years but finally found one with a blown engine, little rust and in my budget. I have some plans for a all Mazda engine and transmission swap but that’s all I can say for now.
I currently one a 2004 Mazdaspeeed mx5 and have had it for 14+ years. Previously had a Mazdaspeed6 for 8 years....Mazda genuine oil runs in my blood. My second kid arrived A few days ago and I decided I needed a family sports car......4 days later I picked up a 2004 Mazda Rx-8. It’s going to be a slow build but hopefully by next summer I’ll be on the road.

Looks like a nice enough shell to work with. What kind of engine swap are you planning? Keeping it rotary?

It has some rust but the rockers and rear fenders are good.
im swapping in a 2.0l Inline 4 Mazda engine, I’m waiting till I sell a few more miata parts before I buy my engine and transmission, only $800 total.

It's a bit more complex than just swapping the engine but that sounds pretty cool. Hope you aren't thinking all you'll need to do is just swap out the engine. It's a bit more tricky than that.

I got this......... Im a mechanic but am usually doing engine/transmission swaps in rock trucks and bull dozers. The rx8 is a toy compared to the monsters I work on.

That's actually really cool! RX8 may be a toy but there will be a few issues you will eventually run into. If you get caught up on anything let us know. Look forward to seeing your final product in action.

Thank you.
i will definitely run into a few, and will ask for help. I will document my build here as I Think it’s important to share information and get help from fellow enthusiasts. I have been on car forums for almost 20 years and it’s sad to see numbers dropping and people going to Facebook and reddit.
