Hello

Hello,

I am new to the RX-8 forum.

I am not an RX-8 owner , but I am a fan of the platform. I am building some parts for a friend and needed some information!

I am building a sequential tachometer and I needed to figure out how the tach signal is transmitted from the motor to the ecu. Has anyone had any successful install of a 3rd party tachometer or shift light? If so please tell me what you did to install it! And whether or not the signal is analog or digital.

Thanks!

~Ian

Idk, you might want to check out the Interior, Audio, and Electronics threads.

I'm still new to this platform myself but I believe it'd be an analog signal as RPM is sent to the ECU via the Eccentric Shaft Sensor (ESS) which is essentially a Hall Effect transducer.

Are you looking to splice into this directly or pull the data back out of the ECU? If so, engine RPM is available on the CAN bus from the ODBII port so you could effectively pull the data from there.
