Having issues and questions

Hello all,

Had my 2005 rx8 for about 9 years now. The engine is acting up and its having extensive misfires when I push the gas pedal pass the halfway point. To the point where there is 0 acceleration. Other than that the car drives fine if I add gas slowly. I read the issues sticky post and the only one I found similiar was the engine choking issue, but it didn't seem to be exactly the same. Could anyone shed some direction or possible know a specialist in the sacramento area? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.
How was the cars maintaince record?
Most common causes of misfire is failing ignition system (COIL, wire, spark plugs), clogged catalytic converter and failing fuel pump.
OEM ignition system will only last 30000 miles. OEM fuel pump will start to fail at around 60000 miles. Cat's life varies, but if more than 60000 miles, if might be clogged.

This thread talks about them more extensively.

I am not familiar with CA, seems like the nearest shop is Racing Beat or Lucky 7 racing

As mentioned above, you will want to start with all new coils, plugs, and wires, clean the maf, ensure your fuel pump is in good working order by making sure you have the proper fuel pressure under load. Perform a proper compression test with a rotary compression tester to ensure you aren't throwing parts at a tired engine. Do a health check on the car and see if there are any other pending or current codes other than misfire codes. This is a good place to start.
