PA Good Deal or Bad Deal?---(from a newbie)

So I've been bummin around thinking about getting an rx-8. I kinda gave up for a while just because i had no place to put a second car and I need a reliable car (my 1998 toyota rav4 with 156,000 miles) to get me to work year round up hear in Pennsylvania. I recently came a crossed a spot to put an extra car and came a crossed this at the same time.

2007 Mazda RX-8 RX8 Sport Salvage Rebuildable Repairable | eBay

Soooooooooo.......I'm here to see if the experts think it a good deal? It kinda looks like you could just got to town on the rear end with a sledge hammer and get a new trunk / bumper / drivers side tail light and it would be good enough. What do you guys think deal or no deal?

PA

Probably depends on if you're willing to put the time into it. I was able to get mine in Pittsburgh area from a private dealer for $4300, high mileage though.

If you're going to pull the trigger, get the engine compression tested. Most people, especially second hand dealers know nothing about these cars.

Title says it is a salvage. You need to check the laws there. A lot states won't let you drive a salvage on the road.

Though you can't register or drive them, salvage-branded vehicles are legal to buy, sell, and own. The manner in which some of them are falsely sold, however, upsets the authorities.

MIG makes a valid point. Here in CO there are some scary as **** vehicles still on the road, though.

ditto to Loki, MIGhunter and CelestialGryphon. This car would need to be inspected by a RX8-trained mechanic, private or dealer. They could tell you what needs to be done with the car, and how much it will cost you to repair and/or replace. Then you would know if this was a project that you could afford to take on.

Renesis engines alone cost many thousands of dollars to rebuild or replace with a reputable remanufactured one. (no new ones exist anymore). They are also many other expensive parts and systems on the car that may well need attention.

Your bargain salvage car could turn into an expensive project. A rotary engine-specific compression test is a MUST before even considering a purchase of this car.

Are there any service records/history available on this salvage ? The club has a list of recommended service that depends on the car's mileage. We here welcome any new owners, and many mechanically-inclined folks here have done their own work on their used cars to save money from a mechanic/dealer. What are you prepared and able to do and pay for ? But first you need to find out the complete and true condition of the car.

only good if the engine is good. Get a compression test before buying for sure!

The point is moot if he can't drive it in the state he purchases it in. All it would be good for is parts.
