This is going to sound crazy

I find here in California that guys don't appreciate the RX8. Maybe it's like that all over. It just seems when I get on here there's such a love for them. I was thinking about selling mine and posted it and had a guy respond to my post with, lol. Yes I was offended. My car is worth a lot to me.😕

The 8 is not a numbers car, meaning its power to weight ratio is low, etc. It is a handling car with some power up top. A lot of guys don't get that.

It also has a reputation for reliability problems and a disposable engine.

Add those two things together, and you'll understand why some guys laugh at the car and fail to "get it".

Don't waste your energy on people who don't like the way you do things.

"D'uhhhh… I like speed."

As our nation continues its slow but steady descent into idiocracy, expect more and more things that simply don't make sense… to happen. Things that once would've have been made fun of - things once considered utterly laughable - will be believed with greater frequency. Soon two plus two will, indeed, equal five. And there will be an increasing number of commentators, radio show hosts - yea, entire "news" organizations - jumping up and down, loudly calling the notion that two plus equals four nothing more than a hoax. And they'll wheel out "scientists" who will say, with a straight face, that the jury on what two plus two equals is still out. That there are still many who doubt what it really equals. That the truth is, we just don't know.

One of the casualities of our transition to idiocracy is something called "nuance". The 8 is a car of nuances. The best things about it can't be measured in numbers. So yeah, don't be surprised when people don't "get" the appeal of your car. The important thing is that you do, I do, and a small group of other smart automotive enthusiasts do, too. And will continue to for many years to come.

the RX8 is a very niche car and as such, most people just don't understand it.
Besides, with all the recalls, engine failures, etc, it really is easy to scrutinize this beloved car of ours.

what did you list the car for? Maybe the guy was responding to the pricetag?

Side note: where about in CA are you in? There's plenty of Rotary shops / meets / events in SoCal for Rotary owners.

Yes that's all true. Some stupid people aren't worth my time and energy. If I like it that's all that matters.

I mean that price does sound high. These cars are at best 6 years old now. Weren't they $30000 new?

Have you checked Kelley blue book or other same year same mileage cars in the market?

Blue book is like $4000 and i would keep it before I would sell it for that. As far as miles probably around $17,000 for same mileage. Idk I guess I really don't want to sell it and it shows in my price.

Let's see...

- According to the local radio station, 47% of the local population says that they don't know how to check engine oil level in a survey. 63% doesn't know how to change a flat tire.

- RX-8 burns oil by design.

Now you can see where the RX-8's bad reputation comes from. Most people don't even bother reading the Owner's Manual.

Mazda is not known for making fast cars that have impressive 0-60 times. The RX-8 and MX-5 are about driver and car as one, especially around corners.

Besides, RX-8 is not THAT slow, especially if you take the displacement into the consideration. A NA 1.3L engine that can do 0-60 under 7 seconds? Find another car that can do that.

Haters gonna hate. I know someone who is fine with their I4 Ecoboost Mustang, and he questioned me why I bought an RX-8. His Mustang is a cool looking car that goes fast, but it doesn't have a soul. The I4 sounds like my Corolla, and it's an automatic. He is also your typical know-nothing-about-cars guy. They form a good team IMO.

In my experience, Series I typically sell a lot cheaper. Series II can sell for a pretty decent price. I saw a big gap in the price difference between 08 and 09.

Maybe if your car is a 2011 R3 your price isn't crazy high. If KBB is $4k I'm guessing it is an 04-05 and your price is nuts.

Yeah so a reasonable price would be somewhere in the middle, if the car is in good shape. Let's say $10k. I wouldn't expect anyone to buy it for $20k, they have many options at that price. So yeah it sounds like you don't really want to sell it.

You must not have many miles.

5 years ago I paid $14K for my fully loaded '04 GT in pristine condition with 18,500 miles.

The only reason it was worth even remotely close to that is because of the 18.5k miles. I purchased a 2004 in 2007 for 10.5k with 66k on it. The cars just never retained their value that well. Mostly because of all the aforementioned problems. The biggest of which is you can easily spend the same amount of money on a car that destroys the RX8 on paper. I'm willing to be a lot of the original owners were people that never wanted an RX8 in their life. But a salesman convinced them to have a mid-life crisis. Whereas most people buying them today are probably looking specifically for an RX8.

Now with that said, I've had the complete opposite experience over here. Everyone I meet is so car-tarded that they think the RX8 has a mid engine V10 or some ridiculous crap like that. If I had a dollar for every single time someone said "Holy crap I love these cars, they go so fast" I'd probably already have my turbo installed.

Unless it's a pristine track car with thousands worth of mods, or you managed to import a spirit R (not possible) I don't think any RX8 is worth close to $20,000 nowadays.

According to KBB and NADA, my 2011 Grand Touring with 41K miles is worth at most $15,000 retail. That assumes very good condition and a strong engine. A much more likely number is $10 to $12K.

The fact that it's an auto is a bit of an issue like 200 has said. They're far less reliable and enthusiasts won't want the car because it's a 4 port motor.

Where does she say it is an auto?

And, not all autos are 4 ports.

True that enthusiasts are not interested in autos.

She posted the car in the FS section. It was a 2008 auto iirc.

I must've misread, I could've sworn someone said it was a 4 port.
