Which first? Dying cat or misfire?

Coils, plugs and wires were replaced just a couple of months ago oem. figured out that the reason I got a blinking cel when i was trying to hit 9k on 2nd gear was because of a misfire. That's what I get for not going BHR. But anyway I'm also noticing symptoms of a bad cat. The question is wit 700 extra bucks to spend this next month. Which would be the more beneficial buy? an Agency power full exhaust cat delete or the bhr ignition system. I wish I had a grand to buy both but it's my chicks birthday month. Hopefully the bhr system is worth 500. Even if it works great I still think 500 is a bit overboard. Suggestions? Opinions?

Cat, unless you want a new motor at the same time when swapping in the bhr.

BHR ignition is the better choice.

You won't have to worry about the pig rich tune, and hard starting.

Catless is against the law and will not pass smog.

In fact since your in Calf., your best bet is to have it smogged. If it passes your cat is good. If it fails, you buy a high performance cat.

I know it's against the law lol I'm just looking out for my engine I didn't really know how serious to take the Blinking cel misfire, but i haven't seen it in months. If my cat continues to deteriorate it could ruin my new bhr coils if I decide to buy those first ...I'm getting the exhaust system to let the car breath I can hear little metal pieces in my stock exhaust. And I'm gonna buy a oem cat just need sometime to save money meantime here I come Agency power!

Hello, you could spend nothing on exhaust, gut the cat, and get the BHR ignition.
Unless you have cat pieces blocking your exhaust, it's a cheaper alternative.

I don't seem to be getting a cel for the cat yet so I'm gonna hold on to it and swap it in when I do the smog, atleast until I can get my hands on a good used one or new one. Gotta save my pennies lol. But if I gut it i can't use it for the smog........ But I can resell it and add money to what i get and buy a new one. I have this excited feeling about the AP exhaust system in combination with the bhr set i will put in a month after. The car drives great right now, But im expecting a more free, less restricted response after the install. I'm sure ill get exactly wat I asked for.

Ideally, I would have your car placed on the lift then drop the CAT so you can check if it's honey comb is clogged or cracked. It would not matter if you purchase the BHR coils or OEM, a deteriorating CAT will not trip a CEL. If your CAT is on it's way out, your engine is next.

With 178,000 miles in my car, it's gone through two CATs. First was at 88,000 miles(still able to get it replaced under 8 years/80,000 miles warranty), symptom was sluggish over 5,500 RPM despite having healthy plugs, wire, and coils. Socond was when I had my reman' engine at 168,305 miles(low compression and I had an internal coolant leak). The front honey comb had started to crack and it had the glowing ring around the O2 sensor. But neither of the two reflected a CEL.

Here is my suggestion (in case you would like it);
1) Check the cat for internal cracks/missing sections.
2) Compression test your engine.
3) If the first two are okay, get my kit as all orders are expected to ship out next week.
The great Charles Hill, I've read so many good things about you on this forum. I appreciate the suggestion sir, but I'm almost certain the cat is hanging by a thread I looked at it last night when I did the tranny diff change looks intact but I'm sure there are pieces I can't see broken scattered in my exhaust pipes. But you are gonna be my choice for the ignition system swap, even if I don't put u first...you'll be hearing from me in a month or so.
