MO Engine for 2004 6-speed

I cant seem to be able to post anywhere else, so ill have to ask here.
I just purcased a 2004 6speed RX-8 without an engine. Where is the best place to purcase an engine? Can I only use the 6port engine? thanks.

Yes, you will need the 6 port engine for the 2004 manual. You can buy them 2nd hand but be very cautious if doing so. You could also try to find a rebuilder that has an engine on hand you can purchase without having a core. This will add about $1,000 to the cost so it could run anywhere between $2000 - $5000. Another way to skip the core charge is to purchase a broken engine from a junkyard so you don't eat the core charge. Your other option is to swap to an LS or LFX engine but it would cost more. It would also require that the shell is in great shape otherwise it's not worth the extra money. What's your budget and plans for this car?

Just go with a 2nd hand engine. You can try eBay but it's a bit risky. Either you'll get a good one or a ruined one. Try to find one from a crashed RX8, they are more likely to work. That's the cheapest way to get it up and running. The other issue you have is going to be missing components which is why the 2nd hand engine you buy is ideally going to have all of the accompanying parts. Ideally, a 2nd hand seller may offer a warranty on the engine and while good to have, it still doesn't mean the engine will be in good shape when it gets to you. You have a picture of your engine bay to see what's missing?

I currently don’t have a picture. I’ll try and take one this week. It seems like I am missing the wiring harness for the engine. So you happen to be familiar with any place in the the Midwest that would have a wrecked rx8 engine ?

Gonna be something you'll need to ship in from out of state. You are likely missing more than just the harness. When you do get the engine, even if it is in bad shape, at least you'll have pretty much everything around it which you need anyways. Something like this is good because you'll also have the spare transmission.

Yeah I was hoping to find one for cheaper without a trans since I already have one. I’ll send a picture, and hopefully you can tell me what I’m missing

was just an example haha. It's nice to have a spare trans though just in case. Buying with the trans makes it only slightly more costly.

Wow, you don't even have the intake... I mean, you are missing a lot of stuff... is the radiator, condenser and fan shroud still there?

The all of the thinks you listed are still there. And I do have the intake for it, I believe it was just in the trunk or something when the picture was taken.

You may be able to contact an engine builder such as Kevin Landers or Kurt Robertson and ask if they offer a complete rebuilt engine for sale. Buying one complete from intake to oil pan should help you if you find you are missing parts.

Also would love to see pictures of the rest of the car!!
