From the original post..

"I've had to get my rx8 towed to mazda because it wouldn't start."

So the frying of the ECU happened when the tow truck guy was trying to help you get it started, which would sound like there is another issue that caused all this in the first place right?
You said you thought it was a flooded, but a healthy car should not flood under any regular circumstances. How are your coils?

Every ones still missing he said the immobilize came on the last time he drove it. I'm thinking that's why it wouldn't start again.

I agree with niteshade. the initial problem still persist and hasn't been looked after therefore, the car may have starting problems again.

Hi guys, just wanted to post another update.

So I figured out why the check engine light had came on. I had disconnected the coolant tank sensor for the MOT because we know that the sensor is faulty and the coolant tank needs upgrading. Once I re-connected this sensor and drove the car a few miles the light magically went off.

I've now done 300 miles in it since getting it back from mazda and it hasn't had any starting issues in that time. I'm with you guys on the fact that it will probably happen again but I dont really know what I can do about it though, as I don't really want to take it back to the mazda garage (they seem a bit clueless to say the least).

I suppose if it does happen again at least I know that I can get the part for next to nothing and then I will know that there is a deeper underlying issue. I'm gonna just put it down to a freak incident until that day comes.

In regards to the immobilizer light, this is only blinking when the car is off so I'm guessing this is normal and not the cause of the starting issue.

My next plan of action is to get the compression test done to see if its worth keeping or not (I hope it comes back positive because I bloody love the rx8!). If it does come back good I'm gonna get the coolant tank replaced and keep her till at least the end of next summer. If it comes back bad, I will definitely look at selling her on. I'm considering swapping to a Celica 190 or honda civic type-r long term - any thoughts on that choice?

Cheers for the responses guys really appreciate it!

I've had my coolant sensor disconnected for 3 years and it's never made my CEL come on. Yes the immobilizer blinking when the key is not in the ignition and car is off is normal this indicates it is on and working. Mazda techs are fools (told me once my tiers were perfect when I knew they were bald as hell) they care less about your car than emptying your wallet and will do so for make be leave reasons.

Immobliizer Impacts

Does anyone know what all the Immobilizer impacts? The obvious one is the starter relay, followed by the fuel pumps. It appears to also prevent the EFI from functioning. It does not impact the APP or the ignition spark. Does it affect the OMP?
