Does this make sense? Ssv/vdi with Video

So here I am again on the quest to find my power loss source.

Code p2070 ssv stuck open yet in the video below it cycles fine on shut down BUT the VDI does not.. is that normal? I understand the code could be for the ssv impact switch but could it be related to the VDI not operating properly? I have a smooth loss of power throughout the rpm range, more noticably between 3rd and 5k.

107k 06 MT
Gutted cat, compression tested fine a month ago.

Ignore the ticking sound, it's the slave rod.

If you can get your hand in there, wiggle it. My actuator was just worn out, the plastic bushings were gone and it kept setting the light. I replaced it, and the issue when away.

See if you can rotate it more closed than the actuator drives it. If you can, the above is likely an issue. Other option is the sensor. but, it is doing its job if the actuator will rotate a bit further.

Thanks, did you have any symptoms?

The code kept getting set.

Seemed to run nicer afterwards. But hard to tell.

I am not sure if the code being set changes the behavior of the engine...

Hey, did you ever figure it out? I noticed you mentioned the ssv cycling at shut down. SSV and VDI do not cycle. APV cycles as it has an electric motor to drive it. SSV and VDI are solenoid/vacuum controlled. You should be able to move their actuator arms freely, and test that the vacuum holds them open. Your SSV is likely gunked up

No not yet, I will replace solenoid and vacuum line first and if that fails I will put in a new ssv. But yes the SSV does check itself upon shut down

The thing is that it holds vacuum with a hand pump and I cleaned it a few months ago. So it's free cuz it checks itself plus it holds vacuum. Something is faulty cuz I'm losing power in ssv open range

When you say checks itself, do you mean a position test? Cause it doesn't cycle, i.e. open/close. Maybe a position sensor issue?

Yeah that's what I meant, impact switch? Yeah but that wouldn't cause power loss would it? And does the apv open and close at shut down?

Trex87, I'm wrong, the SSV does cycle, I don't know if the VDI does but the APV opens and closes at shut down

I don't think vdi cycles, at least mine doesn't
