TN Do I want to sell my RX 8?

I don't know if I am at the right place or not to ask for help on my questions.

I have a 2006 RX 8 RED!! Purchased new. It has 138,200 miles on odometer.

But the engine was replaced at 72,000 miles (due to recall) also a new carburetor was replaced as well. Man that thing was expensive $1800.00!

Anyway I think I want to sell my Mazda. I am 67 years young and I still love the car, but I seem to be having more trouble getting in and out of the car.

The car is in excellent shape. (Minor scratches) I have kept the oil changed by the book. My problem is I don't know how much to ask for the car. I know it want be as much as I think it's worth. Can anyone give me an idea of a selling price.

Thanking you in advance.

Hope they didn't sell you a carburetor!
Its kind of disappointing the resale value of these cars....start high and keep getting lower, till you feel like you are giving it away. At that point its priced right!

The engine was never recalled, but you are referring to the warranty that was extended to 8yrs 100,000 miles.

If the dealer seriously sold you a "carburetor", then you were scammed, since there isn't one on the RX-8, and I don't think Mazda has sold a car with a carb since the 1980s. I'm hoping that is just a mis-applied name though I'd guess that it was the lower intake manifold instead.

The price is going to be rather variable, with the condition of the engine being the biggest unknown factor. If you get a compression test done at the dealer just to get the scores, then we can help you price it more fairly. A good compression engine means you can ask for $2,000-$4,000 more for it than one that is on the edge of failing, and that isn't something that you can just feel. We encourge every prospective buyer to get a compression test before buying, so proactively taking that step to be able to provide the numbers to a buyer is a good thing.

At a guess though, if your engine has compression scores in the 8s, $7,000-$8,000 would be fair. If it's in the mid to high 7s, $5,000 to $6,000. If it is low 7s, $4,000 to $5,000. If it is in the 6s or lower, $2,000-$3,000 tops.

judging by the cost and the nature of the word, i would assume he got a cat converter, not a carb haha!
