Cracked Dash

Hello all, I'm excited to be part of the RX8 family, I have had several RX7s but this is my first RX8, my question is, does Mazda still sell the passenger side airbag dash cover? Story is, the owner I bought this gem from had a recall on the airbag and it came back cracked, I would have taken it right back, but she didn't. Anyway, what is the best solution to this problem, it's quite noticeable and it bother me.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Brent~

Hey Brent, the dashes are out there and available but be warned, they are almost all prone to cracking at some point.
Oh, and the darn things aren't cheap.

Thanks Jedi, I found this part #, does this look right, it says Door Air Bag, but in the diagram, it looks like the dash.

Mine is cracked too and I’ve looked online and just about every one of them is cracked too. I may consider buying a cracked one if I run out of projects to do and try to repair and recondition. But that’s pretty low on my priority list now.

This one for $200 has the beginnings of the crack.
I wonder if it was filled wiylth Super Glue if that would keep it from opening further?

If mine was split like the one I had, I would gamble $200 to see if it would.

You probably want something more resistant to stress than superglue, like epoxy. The flipside is you're messing with airbag opening in case of an accident, you don't want your passengers to receive pieces of airbag cover instead of the airbag.

At this point, the only real long term fix for the infamous dash crack is a $75 dash cover that looks like the OE dash. Basically a bow for the pig.

Another reason I am pissed with Mazda. The local dealership does not even have an RX-8 mechanic and refuses to work on my car.

I had the same issue with my local Mazda dealer refusing to do a repair, was for airbag dash light on a 2004.

I was told the reason for denying the repair was two fold: 1. many parts are not available for the repair, 2. if they do have parts available for the repair, other parts may not be available ( in case they break another part while trying to repair the original part).

This is the issue we all face (parts unavailable) as these cars approach 20+ years since introduction.
