could be a clogged cat or something else? helpp

so the other night i was racing my buddy then was just cruising around after. while i was driving, everytime i accelerate i can hear my exhaust just started sputtering (only when in gears, not in neutral). so i pulled over somewhere and looked underneath the car. some rx8 owner said that if the cat is glowing u have a bad cat. it wasnt glowing or anything. idk what could be the problem. is my cat clogged or is it something else? if the cat’s the problem should i just gut it? help me guys !! )

You need to take the cat off the car to inspect it. We can't look inside it from the internet

If you don't have emissions inspections in your state just scrap the cat. I got $240 for mine using an online recycler when I tore the old exhaust out for the V8 swap.

Have you scanned it for codes? Often a code for catalyst inefficiency, P0420 will be stored if the ECU detects an issue with the converter. You can of course remove it and check for melting of the element or breakage.

Scrap a bad one yes, but don't scrap a good OEM cat.
A suitable replacement will cost close to $1k, and some member who needs one could buy it.

Keep us posted on what you find. I'm interested to see if there are any stored or pending codes.
