Coolant leak!!
hey guys I just had my radiator replaced about 2 months ago and only drove it like 4 times since then. This morning I threw some coolant in because it was empty for some reason, topped it off to about half way mark. I get to work and steady rev the car to about 5k rpm for 2 seconds to release any carbon build up. The car started steaming and there was a pile of coolant everywhere. The steam came from the coolant all over engine
What could it be? I just had radiator replaced. Could it be the cap? It seemed secure when I checked it. The black hose to the right of the cap had a drip of coolant coming out of, could’ve came from there?

Well first stop randomly reving your car while parked for no good reason, second don't drive it as is or you will only make things worst.
did you look at all of the lines to make sure none of them have cracked? what all was replaced just the rad?

The fact that it was empty in the morning should have been a big red flag. The internet can't help here, you need to find where the coolant is leaving the system. Could be the cap, could be a burst hose, could be a poor connection to the new rad, could be your overflow bottle has cracked, which is not unheard of. Those things get fragile with age.

yeah just the radiator. I did the rev bc that’s what I’ve been reading about on forums, probably shouldn’t have. I’m thinking it was pressure build up. I’m going to inspect the cap and any lines I can physically see without taking anything apart.

i made a forum post a while ago. I saw coolant leaking, jacked it up and started car while it was jacked up to spot leak, then instantly dark cloudy smoke came out of exhaust. Turned car off and took to mechanic. Replaced radiator and no longer smoke coming out of exhaust, is running fine until coolant leak again this morning. Car does not over heat

if you have a healthy engine/ignitions/starter you can start and stop your engine all day while it's cold.
was the new rad all aluminum or an oem replacement? there is a little plastic nipple on the oem that is known to snap off even on new ones. like loki said look everything in the cooling system over, rad, all hoses, thermostat, water pump, etc.

thats a common piston lover thing to say when hating on rotarys. "your tires went flat? must be the apex seals, lolz XD". theres around 9 coolant hoses on our engines, some tucked away under the battery tray. id check there first if you cant see the leak from the top

LOL they really act that way too 😂 I’ll start there

Smoking turbo yay
I mean, if it's the apex seals, you will know first when your car refuses to start when it's all warmed up.
