Long time stalker (since 2006), first post...

I have a question for the collective group -

Recently I purchased my third RX-8 (I should have never gotten rid of #2) knowing full well that a rebuild was in the near future; I didn't have a problem with that, because in the end, I'll have a new(ish) motor that I can rely on for years to come. I got my compression tester, got the test done and now have the aforementioned conundrum.

All the faces are getting tired... but not completely dead yet.
I have a little bit of a longer start cold and hot, but otherwise runs fine - idle is good, power is acceptable and nothing unusual out of the exhaust.
This is not a daily driver, just a(n awesome) toy. I don't have the funds to rebuild right now, but would within the next 6 months.
2009 GT - all stock.

So, with the following compression results what would you do?

1) Store it and wait to rebuild (just in case some things that could be reused get damaged)
2) Have fun until rebuild time

Enjoy the drive while you can until it's rebuild time. Thats what i would do anyway.

Drive it and when the low compression starts to get serious, get a Mazda reman from a Mazda dealer.

You don't have to worry about how bad things will be in there that way. As long as you give the old engine back in one piece, it will count as a core.

And the new Remans from Mazda have been very good according to some folks on the forum. Paul from Mazmart said the recent ones he has seen all had a plethora of new parts being used.

 

Well, I solved the longish hot and cold start issue - swapped in some BHR coils, new plugs and wires and BINGO - starts hot and cold with one bump of the starter! Turns out whoever owned it before me cheaped out and put in a set of the nefarious eBay MotorKing coils... absolute crap. The body on all of them was cracked and obviously they weren't doing the job.
