I'm really not too savy when it comes to my pad which is a Fire. Where would I find "command" ? I'm guessing it is one of the symbols on the keypad. Thanks. I'm not a dummy, just not as quick or desirous to learn the newer technology. I'm an old geezer....I know, no excuse.

I'm probably going to go with c coils because of cost. My plan was to have you do a compression test first. I want to make sure the engine is ok before proceeding with wires and coils. So I'm thinking initial!y doing the plugs first as you will be pulling them for the compression test. If you determine the compression is good, then next time around we can do the wires and coils. Also the coolant flush. Make sense? I don't want to drop a lot of money into it until I'm sure the compression is good.

Are you using Safari on the iPad? If so, just punch in whatever you want to find on the webpage in the web address bar, and there should be a suggestion at the bottom that will find the word matches on the page.

 

I use Silk which is what came on the pad. Not sure what Safari is. I'm still trying to figure this thing out. It has an annoying habit of anticipating what I am going to write and is constantly changing my words. It's not a spell check but rather an annoying program that is trying to figure out what I am trying to say. And it fails miserably. I ALWAYS have to go back several times to correct it.

 

Yeah I turn all that autocorrect junk off, or set it to provide suggestions but not actually replace words.

Also a little amused that you won't use Google but use a tablet running Google Android.

 

Oh, pad as in a tablet. I was assuming you are using an iPad because you don't like Google(which powers the Android on your tablet).

Gboard autocorrect doesn't bother me much. Like Loki said, there is an option to turn it to suggestion only.

 

Wow! I had no idea this tablet utilizes google. It has a browser called Silk and sometimes goes to Bing. It is a Fire from Amazon. I should have guessed. Like that article stated, it's pretty hard to have privacy. It's not so much trying to hide anything, but more the principal of what Google is capable of doing and does without us being informed. I am still trying to find how to shut down the program that changes my words. So I'm guessing there must be a way to bypass google???

 

Well that's a lot of big cooperations across a lot of industries for you. Nothing new here. I mean, I don't like McDonald's, but I won't say no to going there if I am in a pinch or eat occasionally.

If you like jumping across that many hoops, sell your Fire because it runs on Google Android. No way around it. Then get an iPad or Surface Pro(pretty much just means you are just in another big coop's hands).

 

The Kindle Fire runs an Amazon-modified version of Google's Android operating system. It's default browser is Amazon Silk, which is an odd affair that splits processing between the browser and Amazon's servers. You can use Find on Page in the Silk browser. You can also use the app store to download a different browser, such as FireFox, Dolphin, etc. Personally, I use FireFox with Ghostery and Adblock Plus plugins to surf almost completely anonymously. I also use StartPage as my search engine for the same reason.

You could use an Apple product, but that's not particularly better. I'm not sure if the Kindle Fire version of Android actually uses any of Google's services, it might just be an OS implementation. Android is open source , it's in all kinds of things. TVs, fridges, etc. Doesn't mean Google is getting anything from those.

The operating system or browser you use is mostly a moot point, what matters is you visiting websites. So unless you plan to stop doing that, you may as well accept the terms. If you really want anonymity, use Tor or Orfox browsers, for network-level anonymity, but they might still set cookies like any other browser.

Silk sounds like a derivative of Google Chrome.

 

I don't know if recommending Tor is really a great advice because you could stumble upon some stuff you wish to never know. Never used it, and I don't think I ever will with all the stuff I have read about it. And you can still get tracked down if it is warranted.

Besides, OP has just claimed that he doesn't like Google because he doesn't like the principle of it, which sounds to me that the solution is to return/sell the Fire because it runs on a Google system.

Also, OP, just a piece of advice: it's hard to stand up against a company in the technology industry without knowing anything about technology. LOL 😁 Yea you are probably right. I try to keep my plastic knife as sharp as possible though. And yea, I don't like McDonald's either but will eat there in a pinch. While I try to stick to certain principals, I am not **** about it. I hope I didn't come off that way. Things like big corporate or government abuses really **** me off at times. I generally try to not contribute to their agendas as much as I possibly can whenever I can.

Man, this thread went to a different place than its intended destination.

I don't blame you. I'm going to stick with my 'C' coils for now as well, even though I already have a BHR kit.

I may try to arrange some dyno time after I procure a tuning suite for the RX-8 to compare them and see if I can quantify a difference (giving them a fair shake with proper dwell settings). I made the mistake of investing in ECUTek tuning software while I had the Miata, which is fantastic but is very limited in the range of vehicles they have developed for. MazdaEDIT supports most Mazda vehicles and while I was critical of their accuracy early-on, they seem to be a good product.

 

How is your 8 coming along? Looking forward to getting things done on mine. I also want to change out the brake/clutch fluid.
