clutch issue

I just bought my rx8 a few weeks ago its an 04 6 speed and I was driving on the interstate and all the sudden I couldn't accelerate and the clutch dropped to the floor. The engine would rev and sounded fine so I pulled over to check it, engine was fine so I figured it was the clutch. It would start in first with the clutch pressed, at this point it had come back up but had very little resistance. After I released the clutch while in first gear it never stalled as well as allowing me to switch into any gear without pressing the clutch. While in gear the rpms would fluctuate between 1000-1500 and would idle fine in neutral. Any ideas? Is it possible it is just the slave cylinder and I won't have to replace the clutch?

Definitely check the pedal bracket because i've had mine break on me while i was driving, it was a loud pop sound and then clutch pedal stuck to floor. But you're saying the pedal still works even though it dropped to the floor, when my bracket broke it would not come back up at all because the whole assembly was dangling sideways. I'd say it's probably the slave cylinder like you mentioned.

I'm hoping it is just the slave cylinder. I didn't hear any pop, but I noticed a weird smell like a burning clutch, but the clutch was working fine, i stopped anyways thinking it was engine so i checked all my fluids and added a little oil, didnt notice any problems so i kept driving and I remember feeling like the car wasn't accelerating with power like usual, now it makes sense that the clutch was stuck for the slave cylinder and that's why I smelt the clutch burning (didn't realize that's what was going on because the smell went away)
