Have a 2004 RX8, a 'friend' was supposed to buy this car but only burnt out the clutch and associated parts. I have no time to do this properly so the mechanics shop right by my house is where it's at...they have done plenty of work for me in past, tho not on my 8, and they're not the typical shyster operation you find all over LA. Ok, I bought a ClutchMax stage 2 clutch kit along with a Proflite flywheel with external counterweight, I had the mechanic put these pieces together outside the car to check fit, pin alignment etc...he wanted to mount the counterweight between the flywheel and the crank, it looked to me that it's supposed to be inside the recess in the clutch side..any help or advice greatly appreciated....I usually do my own work, I don't have time to do it due to work but I still gotta have my weekly Sunday cruise, only way I keep my sanity during the rest of the week. Thanks in advance

 

The counterweight goes between engine and flywheel.
Any chance you can return the ClutchMax ebay whatever and get a proper Mazda or known brand clutch? Might save you having to do this again soon

and, the OE clutch is just fine, the heavier ones are not needed, and make the car less pleasant to drive. Light flywhee is a great idea though.

0​​ 04Green , you were most correct, while the kevlar clutch is much more grabby than stock it's a real mother for a daily driver...good thing mine miles are mostly highway...will certainly seek advice here b4 making any other repair/replace decisions​​​​​​
