check engine light

So I just picked up a 04 rx8, and the car just threw 5 codes at me p0410 p0661 p0410 p0661 p2259 in that order. Would this all stem from a clogged cat? or would it be the issues with the vss and pump. Car has 190km on it but only 11k with new mazda rebuilt motor.
My friend is telling my the cat is clogged and that his car threw all the same codes when his became clogged.

The car seems to run ok, has a lull in the upper rpms around 5500-6k and seems like no power till about 4k, granted this is my first rotory car so this may be normal for the power band.

Never fear, Jedi is here

  • P0410 - AIR system problem
  • P0661 - SSV solenoid valve control circuit low
  • P2259 - AIR solenoid valve control circuit low

I don't think this is a clogged cat based on those codes.
checking for a clogged cat is easy; if you drive it for a while, park and look underneath. If it's glowing RED HOT, there could be a problem. Unbolt the cat, and peak in there with a flashlight to see if the honeycomb structure is still intact of if stuff is bouncing around inside.

Ok I'll give it a drive around then have a peak underneath the car.
Like the car drives pretty good except for those codes, will those codes cause any issues if I leave them unattended?
I'll check all the wires going to the sensors as well.
The pump is working on cold start up I had the hood popped to hear it go for about 30 seconds

Clear the codes and see if they come back. You can figure out if you want to fix them once you know what the problem is. Ignoring codes is a good way to change cars often

I've cleared the codes a couple of times now and the p0661 one comes back usually after driving a little bit.
The reason I say if I can leave them a little bit is cause I'm not on my winter break till the 16th of December and can't have my car ripped apart till then

Cleared the code again, code doesn't come back on until I turn the car off and back on when it's warmed up.

Thanks Jedi, i'll go through the steps and switch them around to see if its the actual sensor or possible wire damage.

Ok so I swapped plugs around from the top on to the middle and now it's giving me the p2259 code.
Now this means I have a short in the vss wires since it's giving me a different code?
