Question Carproof says accident-free, but...

I checked out a 2006 Shinka with ~106k (km) yesterday. Car looks to be in good shape, except two things that stood out to me:

1) Although there's no real sign of rust in the typical spots, the rear wheel wells are pretty chewed up on the inside, almost as if the fenders had been rolled at one point or something.

2) (more interesting) The strut bar is BENT.. about a 60-degree angle in it, and on the driver's side it's only held on by a single bolt. Looks as if the second bolt had been sheared right off. Suggests to me a major impact (also several components in the engine bay look quite new).

What's interesting to me is that the Carproof shows no indication of an collision. I'm wondering how that could be, given that the state of the strut bar suggests there was a major impact. Possible that the previous owner didn't report it to police/insurance, fixed it on their own dime (likely EXPENSIVE) and sold it? Any other ideas?

Right on, by the sound of it, that's definitely the case.

Paper work never trumps what is right in front of you. If it looks bad it probably is however if your willing to "fix" it up more get a really great price on it and factor it in. Best of luck

It wasn't a great price, but pretty average considering age/mileage. It didn't drive great though. No problem leaving this one behind.
