car only starts from a pull start!?
I purchased a 2006MT RX8 with 50k miles (on original engine) for little to nothing. The car is salvage title, but was restored pretty well by the previous owner (who was also the second owner of this vehicle). the car itself looks amazing, and has quite an interesting setup. aftermarket stabilizer, magnaflow catback exhaust, eibach springs, and tokico shocks. the previous owner, for whatever reasons, abandoned the car and let it sit to collect dust for close to a year. when he decided it was time to get this machine going again he connected the battery backwards and short circuited the whole thing. long story story short, he no longer wanted to invest money into fixing the car and passed on his "problems" to me. note that the car was working perfectly fine before this short circuit. I decided to take the project on and have made what i consider to be great advancements towards the resurrection of this 8 starting with getting the electric system back up and running. however, for as much as i have searched the forums i cannot find a definite diagnosis to what my remaining problems may be. the symptoms are as follows...
1. car only starts from a 10-20mph tow.
- I went through the whole deflooding procedure thinking this may have been the culprit behind the car not wanting to turn on. (this also led me to the idea of pull starting) i pulled the plugs, cranked and got rid of whatever was in the engine, replaced the plugs with brand new ones, tried to fire up and nothing. I try starting it with my foot to the floor, then feather off the accelerator, and all i get are hiccups as if the car is right to the point to where it wants to start. however, it does not.
2. car will not idle.
- i have only turned on the car through the pull start method. once on, i have to hold the accelerator for it to remain on. if i let off the gas the car dies.
any ideas on what my issues could be? bad throttle body? compression issues? i've thought that all these could be possible culprits but then again, when i pull start the car, everythings responds as if the car were fine... my only issue is getting the engine to turn over! any suggestions as to where to start?!

Could be that the starter is not spinning fast enough to begin the combustion cycle. One possible cause is that the battery may not be fully charged and spinning the starter fast enough, or the starter is simply not spinning fast enough. I believe your car being an 06 should have the upgraded starter. Only other thing that comes to mind is that perhaps the compression is so low that it takes quite a few rpm's to get the engine to start. Before you start it again, try the 20 pedal brake stomp. Perhaps that may help your idling issue? These are just guesses on my part. I would take it in and get a compression check and insure the engine is healthy before you rack your brain trying to figure this thing out. No point in putting more money into it if the engine is toast.
