Bought my first RX-8

Hi all,
I have always liked the RX-8 and I wanted one when they first came out. I just recently bought a 40th anniversary with very low miles, 100% stock. I'm planning on driving it occasionally, but not too much.
Do you think the car will become collectible many years from now?
I am getting mixed answers on the reading I have done.
Thanks, Eric

Welcome to the forum!! Would love to see pictures of the car!! Do you know any of the car's history?

As far as collecibility is concerned, I think the market will come back some day.. not any day soon, but some time in the future the car will have value once again. Look at the RX-7 market, 15 years ago I could buy a nice lower miles original SA or FB for 5k or less. Now you can't touch a nice example for under 7k. The market dictates the price and right now the prices are up for the RX-7. Bring a Trailer has shown what the market is willing to pay for a nice low mileage example. I'd like to think that the RX-8 will be there some say.

I think only the Spirit R RX8 will have collectible value. This car just wasn't special like the RX7 was. I love my RX8 but I couldn't see my 2004 being worth much more than it is now. Maybe if it was an absolutely pristine low milage R3. Just go out and enjoy the car is my advice. Congrats!

Even the Spirit R isn't that valuable for now. I actually thought it was more expensive and collectible, but Sonicsdaman showed me some prices in Japan and they aren't very high.

IMO it's more about driving it than keeping it pristine. If I want to see a pristine RX-8, I go to an automotive museum for that.

Thats my point, it's relatively cheap now but in the future it won't be.

IMO that will heavily depend on if RX-8 goes up in value as a whole.

Spirit R is not different enough from a normal RX-8 to really set it apart. It's not like an M3 vs. a run of the mill 3 series.

What kind of mileage do you have on yours? Mine is a 2004 gran touring with 80k miles, so firmly in driver territory. I'm currently modding it to my taste and from there just going to enjoy driving the car until the eventual engine build comes lol.

Bought my 2nd RX8

Hey all,

Bought my 2nd RX8 yesterday & am very excited to drive it! I did have one years back but the previous didn’t look after it so it died after a few weeks 😩
This one though, seems to be well looked after, compression tests, proper oil maintenance, tyres etc. Does scare me to read all the issues that can go wrong though! Fingers crossed with proper maintenance it will be ok!

Increase in value from what to what? From $4,500 to $7,500? That could happen as years roll on and fewer clean running RX8's are available. But really increase into collectible range? I doubt it in our lifetime (or at least mine!). Maybe 50 years from now Mecum will roll out a running pristine RX8 and it sells for $95,000, but I just don't see any reason for much of a rise in value over the next 10-15 years.

One of my attractions to the RX8 was IMO pretty amazing car for dirt low prices. There aren't many (any?) great looking great running great handling sports cars, ones that when you take a ride on a summer Sunday you are very unlikely to see anyone with the same car as you, that you can buy under 10K. For half that you can get a pretty nice RX8. Amazing value, even knowing the issues facing an owner.
