Bought an 06 RX 8 two weeks ago..........
Thank you guys for the help with my last post. My parinoia subsided. Before I bring it to get looked at I was hoping I could get some feedback. When I get out of car after driving and the ignition is off I sometimes get a faint smell of gasoline. Is this normal? Never had this on any other car, then again I never had a rotary. I can change an alternator but by no means am I a mechanic. I was wondering if someone might be able to help. Just a faint smell of gas after turning the car off. And it's only when you exit the car.. Not inside the car. Thinking maybe that is the way the engine runs? If anybody can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Does the odor of fuel happen only after driving then shutting it off? Have you tried exiting the car while it is still running to see if the odor is present then, as well? Have you tried looking under the car to see if there is a wet spot under any part of the car? What about stains on the ground where you park?
It sounds as though it is shedding unburned fuel, but how much and from where is hard to say. Ii you live in a high-salt area (north with salt on roads or south near the ocean, it could be a corroded fuel line seeping while under pressure from the fuel pump. That is where looking for evidence of where the seepage might be would come in handy. Another possibility is a leaking fuel line at the top end near the injectors. To find that, try lifting the hood while the car is running and see if the odor is there and possibly stronger indicating the need for a complete search of the fuel system to see if it is, indeed and leaking fuel line.
Still another possibility is an ignition system that is getting weak enough to burn only part of the fuel the injectors are supplying. That begs the question of when, if at all, the coils, ignition wires and plugs have been changed. If never or not withing the last 10,000 or so miles, better plan (read "budget") for that as the next step, If there is unburned fuel could be flooding might be nest which could easily become a royal pain.
Most of this is simple detective work aimed at eliminating possible issues that, left uncorrected, could become a pain in the butt, at best, or dangerous at worst (chance of fire if a leak). If the simple checks don't find the odor, best consult a dealer's service dept and let the track down the issue.
By the way, have you checked out the new owner's thread? If not, is a valuable read chock-full of info.

Thank you. I will look into it tomorrow afternoon. I will get back to you. I know the guy I bought it from was a mechanic. He said he changed the plugs and wires. Not the coils. Strange. I'll find out more tomorrow.
