Best RX8 for me

Best RX8 for me
I went to the Japfest day at my local Circuit, Castle Combe (Chippenham, UK) and I walked past the RX8 stand, correction I couldn't walk past there was a magical force pulling me towards it, I tried to fight it but even the hog roast next door could not compete with the attraction, so over I went to have a look.
Just happy to look but was drawn to ask questions about this work of art that was presented in front of me, had a great time but believing they were out of my price range left to watch the racing.
Later on I was made aware of how cheap they actually are, well within my price range and insurance is cheap as well, I have been trying to find information about the car with a view to getting one but falling short of the information I want.
The information I found on this site is amazing and your best attempts to put me off has failed, I either deduce that I am totally nuts or have an unexplainable love for the RX8 and I haven't even driven one yet, I suspect both.
Looking through the small adds the price for a 2003 - 2004 is between £1K and £2k there are 2006 models that have similar price perhaps raising by about £500, what if any is the best year to get and RX8, trying to stay under £3k to allow for maintenance repairs for the first years of its life, is it better to get a newer one to cut maintenance costs or an older one and allow for maintenance.
Also what is the difference between the 1.3l and the 2.6l the 2.6 appear to be slower, is this correct as it sounds strange.
What is the 0 - 60mph time (roughly) I like acceleration.
Most UK adds are for 2.6l but I like the idea of a 1.3
It will be a second car and only used for weekend or evening driving.
I have tried searching for information on the forum but the search has not been kind to me.

Um, there is no 2.6L RX-8. All RX-8s come from the factory with the 1.3L Renesis. There are 3 engine variants: 4-port Series1, 6-port Series1, or 6-port Series2. All are 1.3L. Some other places classify the engine as a 2.6L for various innane and unjustified reasons, but it's still just a 1.3L.
Read the new owner thread, since it has the engine differences in one section, and the top has the information on how to search the forum using the google search engine, the forum search engine isn't that great.
It also has the list of stuff to look for and what you NEED to look at and test before getting any one RX-8.

Thanks for getting back to me, I was pretty sure there wasn't a 2.6l but there were so many listed as being such, there was no mention on this site, I needed it clarifying from someone who is better informed, thanks for that.
I have read the new owner thread and very impressed as it is very comprehensive, I am keeping 3k back to cover any possible maintenance, engine rebuilds etc.

The 2.6l deal is based on tortured reasoning by governments that tax cars based on engine size.
Acceleration isn't a strong point. 0-60 time is supposed to be a tad over 6 seconds. As an old fart who grew up when affordable sports cars were in the 10 second range, that's pretty good for me. But you won't compete with muscle cars.
