Anything else to do while tranny is out?

I recently bought a BHR clutch kit due to the fact that the clutch was making noise and also it would not let me go into gear. Is there anything else that should be changed while the tranny is out besides the new clutch and throw out bearing?

Pilot bearing, pilot bearing seal, resurface flywheel (if you can remove it), and trans oil.

SS clutch line.

Check cat for blockage

straighten out the cross members

light flywheel and weight, might generate noise though. I hope you went OEM style.

Drink beer.

What if I can't remove it?
And if I can, where can I take it to get resurfaced? I'm in Brooklyn,NY.
What does a clogged cat look like?
I don't think I'm gonna change the flywheel.
Why beer?? Am I in for a crazy job?

If you are replacing the clutch then it is always recommended to resurface the fylwheel. Just call around to machine shops, I am sure there is a place in Brooklyn that does it often.

As for the cat, if you remove it, shake it, and hear stuff rattling around then you need a new cat.

Ok thanks. I found a shop 1.5 hours out 😮
I'll look out for the cat. If it's clogged what should I do. I think it's illegal in NY to gut a cat. Should I just get a new exhaust kit? If so what are some good ones?

On the flywheel resurface, pulling it is a pain, you need a huge freaking socket and a huge freaking wrench ( or a 1" electric impact wrench).

i would just clean it with 100 grit sandpaper, after I carefully taped over the hole where the pilot bearing is located.

Yea I was looking it up and it would cost me a lot more time and money to resurface the flywheel. Due to the fact that you need special tools.
100 grit that's a little too aggressive don't you think??

Pilot bearing puller. You can buy one off ebay for 30 bucks. Ill try to post a pic of mine when i get home.

A decent set of 3/8 sockets/ metric extra extensions to reach the upper bolts to the engine.

Jack stands

I have never had an issue removing the flywheel with a flywheel stop and a normal impact (550ft/lb I think mine is). It is an excuse to buy more tools though, I am always looking to buy more tools

I have all that except the pilot bearing puller and the tools to remove the flywheel. I was thinking of leaving the flywheel alone and just doing the bread trick to get the bearing out (Do you HAVE to remove the flywheel to get to the pilot bearing??). I don't have an impact gun so that's not an option.

you dont need to remove the flywheel to get the pilot bearing out. if the flywheel is in decent shape you can scuff it up lightly with a wiz wheel. when riwwp and i did adams clutch the bearing came out in pieces. the outside collar was stuck in the e shaft and the puller wouldnt get it out. we carefully used a dremel and carbide bit to score it enoughso we could get it out. major pita and be very careful if you have to do this
