Please read the newbie's guide to modding for the answer on how to adjust redline, and all about "chips". https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...rx-8-a-233937/

There is also a very good reason why the redline is low, and the redline shouldn't be raised without serious consideration of the consequences.

Thank you. Just read it. the story doesn't look so good for changing the ECU maps of an Automatic.

Maybe there's a chip that plugs into the torque converter itself?

Which makes me wonder...when someone gets suckered into buying a chip, where would it even get plugged in? I don't recall seeing a socket marked "Insert Acme chip here."

Ninsei - unless you have a really strong need for auto (disability?) consider getting a manual. Has a higher red line and more power. Part of the sports car experience. Not hard to learn if you're into cars. It will also prevent you from ever loaning your car to dimbulb friends who never learned to use a clutch.

Please don't create multiple threads on the same basic fundamental subject. I merged your two threads.

I am curious why you are asking if "anyone have one with an auto tranny"? I mean, they exist and were all sold, and if you buy one it will have been owned by the previous owner...

As long as you get one with the Sport Suspension (look for 18" stock wheels, moonroof, interior leather + heated seats, DSC/TCS button to the lower left of the steering wheel) then the world class handling is about the same as a manual. For 2004-2005 you are down around 40hp from a manual, for 2006+ you are down about 20-30hp from a manual Does it make a difference? Yes. The automatics have slightly more torque actually, so the "push" for an automatic is just as strong (or weak) as a manual. But the manual can stay in gear for longer, be at a better gear ratio for a given speed, etc... so a manual is certainly faster. The manual transmission is also one of the best feeling transmissions ever made.

I think the op is stuck with the auto for a while. The op knows the auto is slower than the manual, so he/she needs more power into it...
