Racing Beat is in California. But it sounds like you might be a bit new to this game, you need something to tune it with, like a Cobb Accessport or a software called Mazdaedit. Read up, it'll help.

There is a sticky post in the new member forum that will tell you about what you should look into first before tuning.

Every make and model is different, but your options for an RX8 are above. You *could* send the ECU to Racing Beat for a retune, but then you're without an ECU until you get it back.

Most shops don't know what an RX8 even is, never mind how to tune it. Also there's not much to tune if you're stock. The cars come pretty well configured already, its not an econobox.

Maz Maniac still tunes TMK. But welcome to RX8 club. The guy with the deer eating RX8 and the Trickster God have it outlined pretty well. Tuning an RX8 is like... the last thing you do. Focus on reliability upgrades and cooling system updates first.

Also, confirm you even have an engine worth or capable of being tuned.

I agree, go with the cheapest, reliable, easy to DIY mods. Some are so easy you would be throwing away good money letting a mechanic do it.

I would definitely toss the excellent OEM paper filter and airbox and get a leaky dirt inhaling foam filter instead. You might get an actual 0.015 absolute increase in hp. Ha!

I'm considering putting mine back on, but I keep the dry-sock on my AEM with no issues.

I do not have any data but I have cleaned a few friends truck filter boxes, helped another with replacing a K&N with a paper on an E9x, and countless dual sport motorcycle wrenching sessions to know that the airbox surface area post foam filters are all dirty - coated with filth. Most paper air filter air boxes are relatively clean. My Acura Integra GS-R (over 250K miles) and CR-V (over 150K miles) both have very clean airboxes post filter. I'm pro aftermarket filtration systems but they must deliver clean air to an engine.
