About to be new RX8 owner in uk need a bit of help
Hi guys
I've wanted an RX8 for ages and finally found a very nice one from a dealer
I went to look at it and took it for a test drive and it drove beautifully and was quiet and in very good condition
When we tried to restart hot though it didn't want to
When the dealer finally got it started again he gave it a really good hard run and when he took it back and started it hot after a minute it started a lot better
Could it just need a really good run having been say around for a while as I've put my deposit down and it was great when going???
Thanks

Walk away from that car ...
Compression test is a must.
Probably needs coils and who knows what else if this is happening at the dealers.
What year? Model? Mileage?
REad the stickies especially this one https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...t-here-202454/

So they are going to check the Catalytic, provide a proper compression test with results, change the coils, plugs and wires?
2004-05 are known for their recalls as well.
Have you checked that all the recalls have been done?
Other things that tend to wear out and/or start causing issues with age:
- Starter
- Fuel pump
- Front O2 senser
- SSV
I wouldn't do it unless the price was excellent pronounced "FREE" lol
Seriously you're taking a big chance IMO

I'm not sure in the UK.
Here in Canada, the dealer can tell you.
I believe they look up the Serial number.
So 2300 GBP is roughly 3600 cdn
Mmmmm well well that's IMO is a fair cheap price.
Sooooooooo I like to do all my own work on my car and I have both the time and money to do the repairs. It's also not my daily driver so I can do these things at my leisure.
If that describes you and you're current life position then sure, I just might buy that car.
If this is your DD and you can't afford to do the maintenance and/or can't do the maintenance yourself ... I would seriously consider not buying this car.

It will be my dd however I will be able to afford a bit of maintenance
And yes every year or 12k which ever came first has been serviced from a mazda recommended dealer and has a stamp in each bit of the book

I would insist on a compression test and insist on seeing the values.
There should at least 3 per rotor, one for each face.
(The sheet should also include chamber difference values and rotor difference values but those are just delta's of the measured pressure)
The values need to be normalized to 250 rpm.
No compression passing test, don't buy it.
It really comes down to that test.

Ok so there should be one for each face of the triangle and each one should be over a certain value??
Also what dies it mean if it has lost compression will it cost a lot to repair ??

Legend In My Own Mind
Low compression means a rebuild. The cost of a rebuild is always to be determined until the engine is apart and all the parts have been inspected. Something always needs to be replaced on the inside.
