2004 Mazda RX8 or 2007 Dodge charger SXT

179000 on charger runs pretty well, 134000 on rx8 currently waiting on a radiator but seems to drive well haven't done a compression test. I definitely like the rx8 more than the charger but 134000 seems really high for the renesis engine and I don't know what a rebuild would cost. So honest opinion which one should I keep I already own both.

You're on an RX8 forum, not sure you'll get a fair and balanced opinion here. A compression test would decide this wouldn't it? If you need an extra 5k in the 8, then it's no contest. Other than that, which do you prefer to drive? We can't really decide that for you.

Definitely like driving the 8 better only got to drive it for a short time and definitely liked it but i figured I have so little in the car I would be able to have the engine rebuilt but if it would cost anywhere near 5k then yeah I'll stick with the charger. I'm trying to get a good opinion on how reliable the renesis rotary engine in the 04 rx8 is and how much it would cost to rebuild with me not removing the engine or I am able to remove the engine then how much? I've read a lot of negative things and a lot of its all about how it is maintained. I have some good knowledge about the previous owner he bought the car brand new in 04 paid in full with a check he was an older man so I'm not sure if he would have been revving it up often but he might I don't know. To the best of my knowledge and service records it has never had the engine replaced or rebuilt and with 134000 miles on it that seems like a lot when I read about people replacing them with 30000 miles on one.

You may get more responses if you break up your walls of text.

TLDR means too long, didn't read.

Many members will see that and keep moving without reading it.

Yeah you definitely need that can't help you, but many people just get one from the junkyard.

None of they yards around me have had any so far, I know the under cover isn't all that important but I've had rocks kicked up and put holes in a condenser before. All the ones online are 150+ which seems crazy

I actually wasn't joking, you DO need it. No so much for rocks but to direct airflow over the rad. You're not getting best cooling without it.

it boils down to what your looking for as in what's your goal with the car;

If you want speed, you love being shoved in your seat when you slam the gas then go for charger
If you like more trunk space, spacious interior then Charger is your answer

If you prefer driving a piece of art with smoothest power delivery out there, one of the best handling, nimble as miata car then Rx8 is your answer.

Rx8 is plenty fast, it's not a prius by any means, it becomes alive after 4.5k rpm :-)

The more time you spend on the 8, the more you realize that Mazda did one heck of a job on this car, I've never been a mazda fan still aint, but can't help but appreciate what they did with rx8

Get the compression test done, to determine the engine's health, make sure there is no rust on the body.

A decent rebuild from a decent rebuilder would run you 3-5K depending on who do you go to.
Look up "Rotary Resurrection" they have by far the best pricing and stand by their work.

Read up on the maintenance for 8

Gas wise I guess charger and the rx8 would do just about same lol.

All the best with your research

Haha the charger is more spacious by far but definitely does not shove you back in your seat it's only the 3.5l if it was the hemi it would be no contest I would keep the charger but I just got the 8 up and running and the damn thing runs like a dream no hot start issues so far I cleaned maf sensor and ess while I was changing the radiator it's got 134000 miles on the original engine which is high but I don't see any power loss or anything so I think it's gonna be the 8 depending on how the next week goes
