100k miles on original engine.

I just cranked over 100k miles on my rx-8. I've had it since 26k miles. It still purrs like a kitten.

About the only major malfunction was a broken lower control arm...

Been pre-mixing since I got it..

And using full synthetic motor..(for the engine oil.. Not the pre-mix)

The old girl has treated me well.. And compression is still good.

And special thanks for this board being here and to all the people who post, when I was tracing down craziness.. (steering light after battery disconnect... Abs and tcs lights coming on....radio cutting in and out...etc..)

Have fun,
Jim

Yeah I have sea foamed it one time a couple years back.

Run about 6 oz. of 2 cycle oil at every fill up. (approximately. I eyeball it.)

Change plugs and wires when it starts acting crazy and sputtering..(if that doesn't work, I change the coils too.)

It's still starts up fine when the engine is hot.

Are you doing the rebuild yourself?

Nice man, thanks for sharing. Subscribed to see where this thread goes. I'd love to hear more experiences and hopefully more stories of 6-digit mileage original motors.

Yup i figured i have the money to do it and i want to learn as much as possible about rotary engines as i can. I have never owned or even worked on one. But i have built my turbo jetta a supercharged 95 camaro and now want to build one of these. If it doesnt work out in my favor I am confident i will atleast learn about how the engines work. And in the worst case scenario i will order a motor from a local shop and have them build it so that i can turbo the heck out of it.

100k is great! The engine in my 04 base model lasted 94k and I shut it off cold twice and heard a pop, presumably from detonation and lost compression on the rear rotor. I also maintained it properly, but used conventional oil. Glad to see that you're going strong at 100k! Sounds like you're on the right path to many more trouble free miles!

Until I snapped two lug studs while putting on winter tires this weekend. :

Good thing I just happened to have two spares.
