WTB RX8 Shell

I'm looking into buying a RX8 shell to throw an LS motor into. I'm just looking around right now, but if anyone has one, let me know. Thanks.

i saw that. but i don't know. if i can find one that has a nice body and a blown engine that i can rip out and throw in a LS motor, then i'd be happy. I don't know whether i want to swap one of these, or just buy a corvette. I'm 20 and the insurance will likely be bad on both. i got a quote of 120 a month for the corvette.

You should search the major HP upgrades forum for engine swaps; an LS swap may not be as easy as it would for other cars and may end up being costly. I know there is at least one other person on here who has swapped an LS1 into their 8 and one who put in an LSX; you should contact them and find out what they had to go through first before you dive into this project.

thanks for the input. i think i will do that. maybe i'll just say screw it for now and go with a C4 corvette.... or an RX-7 ls swap. But i will look into this still. because these cars are gorgeous, just heard of rotory engines being very unreliable. not to mention the rx-8 i drove was rather... slow. *waits to be shot* But, could that have been the automatic trans? I have a 94 honda prelude, so i don't know enough about the RX-8.

The auto is slow, the MT is quick. The RX8 out of the box really isn't "fast", especially when compared to something with an LSx (T/A, Corvette, etc). You will often hear that the 8 "isn't meant for straight line speed, but handling" and it's gunna be true. It will cost you a lot of time and $$ to get the 8 fast, but it is def. do-able. So how fast you can make this car will depend on your budget.

Also, the whole "RX8s engines aren't reliable/crap out at 30k/60k" etc is BS. Take care of your engine and you should be fine (you can find good operating procedures on this site). IIRC, the number of engines that failed were less than 1%.

But anyway, do some searching on this site and you should find all the answers you need and stop by some of the local meet; you will find all the info you need there...that's how I learned.

No, 120 a month isn't expensive. I just wanted to see what all my options were. that was the minimum that i could get for it. I saw there were a few posts in here recently. I have an 87 RX7 now that I'm doing a V8 swap in now, so this threat can be locked if an admin wants to lock it. I don't think I can delete it.
