Still have the ABM R3-- tough bc i've already done all the work/maintenance/upgrades to enjoy the car. Not really planning to sell at this point unless someone is willing to pay what the car is worth.

You saw the recent red R3 w/10k chassis miles on BaT? Went for around $37,000

 

That car didn't sell for $37k. It was 33. And that same person also paid $40k for a 2014 Evo. Take a look at the actual average for what most of the R3's sell for on that site (https://bringatrailer.com/search/?s=rx8+r3) rather than taking an EXTREME outlier and lying to yourself that it's the average. Also keep in mind that the cars on BaT typically don't get approved for auction unless they appear to be in better condition than average. So the average on BaT is higher than the average market value. Even on BaT, you are lucky to get over $15k once the car hits 30k miles.

The risk in buying a rotary at 50k miles is similar to buying a piston engine at 200k+ miles. And on top of that, the engine re-build/replacement will be more expensive. The cars are worth what the market is willing to pay for them.

There was a nice looking, non-rust R3 sitting on autotrader for the past four months at $13.5k. I don't know if it ever sold, or the owner just gave up trying to sell it. I considered it, but the hassle of doing the autotrader sign up process just to message him and do the typical back and forth about a compression test was too much hassle.
