Hi im Josh from MA, Im looking into purchasing a 2004 rx8 there are a bunch of them in my area for sale. I have done alot of reading and have seen that some of the 04's had problems im curious as to when im looking at them what are some things that i should be aware of, that i will only be able to tell from the test drive and looking at the car.

Couple of suggestions:
1). Familiarize yourself with the technical service bulletins offered on this site: http://www.finishlineperformance.com....php?pageid=11. Look for a vehicle that has a full set of maintenance records (usually a good sign the car has been looked after properly unto itself) and compare with TSB's to see what has been done and what needs to possibly still be done.
2). If you find one you really like, take it to an RX8 dealer/shop and have the car checked over, especially a documented compression test. Look up compression test threads on this site to see why this is so important for an 04 vehicle and what good/bad results will look like.

My guess would be yes, but actually have never seen anything in writing myself either. I would think a call to a local Mazda dealer under the guise of a potential new car buyer might surface some info for you on the transferability.

The 8yr/100k core coverage goes with the VIN.
All factory warranty on this car transfer between owners.

MT or auto? you want to be sure that the shifts are super smooth. i have heard that the auto is actually a pretty well engineered piece but there are some shortcomings with the manual. it is known to be weak. i drive the hell out of my manual and haven't had a single problem with grinding or notchy shifts but it is something to look out for. nothing says when i go out later i wont grind a gear.

clutch engagement. the pedal is known for being a problem and there are a bunch of cheap fixes out there. i think BHR actually makes one as well as raceroots. but if your buying now you could have the owner look into fixing it for you if you find a problem. others will chime in with more i'm just tired of typing now.
good luck with your purchase.

don't listen when people say there is a ton more to do maintenance wise. it's only slightly more involved than the next car and so worth the driving experience in carrying around an extra quart of oil.
