track day at nhis

Hey All,
I just did my first track at New Hampshire International Speedway with the BMW Club and I gotta say I think I'm hooked. Even though it was a BMW event, my instructor had an RX-8 so he was very familiar with the car.

There's another one coming up 8/16 with the SCDA. Anyone interested in going?
http://www.scda1.com/

I'd also be interested in doing Limerock 8/20.

expo do you turn off dsc/tsc for the track? just wondering. i left mine on and i think will for some time. in a skid school i found it amazing how fast the car can go from stable to 360 with just a little oversteer.

Wet track I leave it on all time time, dry I use it for only the first run.

the car did better than me i was a bit overwhelmed to be honest. it's a lot to take in the first time. a bmw hit a porsche in the second session and both cars spun and hit the wall and were pretty messed up. that kind of spooked me, but from what i understand it doesn't happen often. nobody was seriously hurt at least.

i ran stock pads with super blue brake fluid. no problems at my level as i wasn't braking as hard as a more advanced driver would be. i'll probably go with the hawk hp plus pads for the next one. the car was great but i was very careful and not very aggressive as i was concerned about damaging it. the scariest part for me was when the instructor was driving my car for the first couple of laps as he pushed the car a lot harder than i did. also, i'm running kumho spt's which are not a good track tire and they got a little squirmy in the hot afternoon runs. should have gone with khumo mx's at least, but i didn't know i would be doing this. i would really like pilot sports but they are so expensive.

the adss school is a lot of fun. they set up an autocross at the end which is a blast. remember to turn off the dsc/tc for the skid pad or you'll never get the *** end out. i forgot (twice!) and i was saying to myself wtf is wrong with this thing, she won't oversteer. i never knew how well that system worked. also, remember to empty out your car and bring a rubbermaid bin to throw your stuff in. make sure you bring some oil too. prep like a track day because they do tech the cars.

Bill was my instructer at NHIS in May, he was great. He still had a titanium gray '04 at that point. I had no idea he was planning on replacing it.

That's tough to hear of the collision. What run group was it in? They allow looser passing restrictions now in groups 0 (instructors) and 1 (advancd). I am guessing it was either one of those groups, or novice. I have seen one "incident" at each event I have been to, some minor, some major, but always only one car. Its usually a high horsepower car and lead foot which is a bad combination exiting turn 12.

I am fully stock, and also felt that I wasn't yet taking advantige of all that the car has, even with several days experience at NHIS in a different car. I have a stock '05 manual, so NO DCS/TCS, so I build my speed very slowly.

I will be at NHIS for the BMWCCA event on Thurday 8/23, and for all three days in October. Any chance some of you guys can make it? The October event is awesome, combined with a club racing event. Only three runs per day, but NO FLAGGING DUTY and some awesome door to door racing action!

Dear heartygrain,

Welcome to the Track Addicts Club International, your member number is 983746. We are glad you had a great time at NHIS, we even heard you had Bill with an RX-8 as an instructor!! We've included some things in your membership kit.

1. A list of excuses for your boss as to why you can't work when there are weekday HPDEs
2. A list of Nanny services for your kids and stand in husbands for your wife.
3. A list of banks to get loans for mods.

Thanks for your membership!

In all seriousness, very glad you had a great time. I've run with BMWCCA many many times and Bill is great. In fact, he's the only one at BMWCCA that can properly instruct someone driving an RX-8 or similiar car. The rest of them are used to such heavy cars, so when you don't start braking until the 2 sign on the front straight, they get scared.

I'll be going to Tremblant with BMWCCA in August, and also back to NHIS with them August 23rd (that might be the Boston chapter). The SCDA is probably the best club to run with in the northeast, but they are soooo expensive (I think over $300 for 1 track day now). Thats too much money.

Let me know if you have any questions, I'd love to help out a fellow addict in the northeast!

Sorry was off for a week. I think it was with run group 3, which was also novice, as instructors were also in the cars. The story I heard was that the bmw was trailing the porsche very closely going into one of the early turns and "lost all brake pedal". He then touched the car in front of him and they both lost control. So perhaps it was mechanical failure or a brake fluid issue.

Where do I sign up for NHIS for 8/23? I would like to do limerock 8/20 with SCDA but $350 for one day's fun is a lot of dough.

...uhhh? ... what? You called? I'm still here . Just getting my Aug/sept/Oct schedule together. Looks like Aug/Sept are the active months. I was at NHIS in June, Calabogie a couple weeks ago (pic). Been a slow start, but Temblant may work for me, NHIS too at least a couple times yet.

Anyone else up for Tremblant on Aug 10-12? That's one amazing track. RPIRX-8 are you going to actually go - I mean is the car ready? Be nice to get a few of us to make a showing there!
