VA "RX-8" Virginia License Plate

Greetings Honorable Rotaryarians.

A bit of trivia for youse who may have an interest.

I have been asked for years how I was lucky enough to get the "RX-8" license plate in Virginia. Guess it is just my innocent life-style.

In any event, situations change and I now must give up that plate lest I look like a dork and put it on a pickup truck. Had to sell my beloved skateboard so I relinquished the tag this morning. Don't know how long it takes DMV to show it as available, but should not be long.

http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/c...les/plates.asp

May luck be with any of you who wants it and may your rotors long spin. Would love to see it again some day!

My plate is only one letter off .... that'll have to be close enough.

I didn't realize the state "recycled" personalized plates. I assumed once they were used, they were gone since the plates were out there.

If they didn't recycle plates, then the state would run out of plates to issue after X amount of years. Thus, by recycling, they make this event less possible. plus, the state makes extra money by charging more for vanity plates, so if all the good ones got used up and couldn't be reused, then ppl would stop paying for the vanity plates since they would not be able to get one they wanted.

It's not available yet, I just checked. I'm curious now too. Maybe they require the previous owner to turn the actual plate in? Or maybe it needs to be out of circulation for a set number of months?

The previous owner def has to turn in the tags first, and then I am sure they give some sort ofhold period before putting them back out. But, you could just call the MVA or DMV to find out how it actually works.

Will try to check with local DMV tomorrow to estimate when tag will be available.

FYI, I didn't have to physically return the tag. It will end up on the garage wall with other custom tags. Someone will just get a brand spanking new plate including a picture of an aardvark or whatever else they are willing to pay for.

Will advise. Zoom, Zoom.

Cripes, welcome to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Been to the DMV - twice. THREE completely different answers. )*&(^#%$#!!

1st WRONG Answer: Something must be wrong with the website. That tag should be available immediately after you relinquished it.

2nd WRONG Answer: "RX-8" will be available as soon as you get the other tag you ordered. Should be any day.

3rd RIGHT Answer: DMV automatically puts a 90 day hold on all custom plates until they can be re-released. RX-8 should be available between Oct/15 - Nov/1.

I am truly sorry for pulling youse string like this. It was totally unintentional and I was just trying to do a good turn for my fellow Rotorarians. Please accept my apology.

However, the offer is legitimate. I'd just start checking the Create-A-Plate website starting next month. If I am notified of anything else I will post post-haste.

Zoom-Zoom.

Just put my new tags on last week. =-D Everyone always asks "what size engine is in that?" or "is that a V-6?"

^Are you seriously just looking for any excuse to post your license plate? lol

Give it some time, don't keep going to old threads and such just to do so.

I used to have a 0-cyl plate for awhile. I got rid of it quick because everyone asked, hey is that a new electric car?

Gimme a break man, I'm just adding it to each of the plethora of vanity plate threads. Someone looking for ideas (in another state) may only view one or 2 threads. Just adding it to the list. If you don't like it, don't read the threads.

Dude, give me a break. There are threads all over the place about it now.

Like, I know you're proud and all, but jesus. Bumping PLENTY of really old threads about it just isn't called for.

And yes, there are plenty of them. They don't all need it.

While I'm not reading them anyway, I'm seeing them all over the place. That's what's urking me.

There's a point where it's just unnecessary. That line's been crossed.

I'm all for you being proud and posting a pic, but bumping old threads, several in the same section? Come on now, don't clutter the forum.

MS, get over it. If there were only one master Vanity/Personalized plate thread, I would have only posted on that one.

But rather than ignore it and let the threads get old and stale again, you're bumping them even further.

I didn't bump them further. If anything, you're bumping threads relevant to what I'm looking for further down, by bumping the SAME thread in multiple areas.

What you're doing is just bringing clutter back to the surface. If someone wanted to search for license/vanity plates, they would see the newest topic first. They don't need to see every single one brought back as a group.

Ignoring clutter, leads to the forum getting VERY cluttered. That makes it hard for people to find stuff they're looking for.

Then, since they searched, and couldn't find what they wanted through the clutter, they make easily answerable topics, such as..

'There's white stuff on my dipstick! What do I do?!?!'

Plenty of topics about that, if you would've searched, you'd find it.

Oh wait.. There's like 10 pages of clutter now, brought back in front of it.

You know why there's so many more than one thread of it, when only one thread about it is needed? Because of all the clutter, people give up on searching.

Yes, I know it's bound to happen, but it can at least be prevented. Doing that sets a bad example for newer thread members, and they do the same thing.

'But I saw so and so make multiple threads!'

Yeah, but there's no need for you to post a WTB thread in the freaking gallery, just because someone else posted all over the place.

See my point? There's no need for bumping so many threads everywhere, just for that, when only one was necessary.

See my point? You're not doing any real good in doing that, just cluttering the forum.

I'm bumping? Ha. No. I'm on your case to stop bumping old, useless threads. Jesus. I know two people who when they ask for help of any kind, I won't offer any.

Whatever. Fill the forum with nonsense all over the place, do whatever floats your failboat.

Not many forums I've been a member of that allow thread digging like you've done.

+1 post count.
