Rotorfest 2007 New England Caravan!

Well since Jason posted his thread about the caravan from NYC figured since no one has stepped up to bat for the New England area I'd do the pleasure.

Since those of us in New England are the farthest away we are sadly gonna have to get our asses up nice and early (Re: Crack of Dawn!) and haul *** down there. According to Mapquest its a 4hr45min drive to the Dragway, but we are making a detour of sorts to meet up with the NJ/NYC Caravans. The detour is to Exit 48 on I-80 West.

************************************************** *******************
Ok folks here it is the Directions and Meet Times.
Summary: Leaving from the Norwood/Dedham Area to New Haven, CT then off to Pine Brook NJ to meet up with the rest of the Rotorfest Caravan. Then off to Island Dragway.

Meet Time: 5:30am @ Rojo's Car Wash in Norwood, MA (This is on Rt.1 south about 2min's from 128/95)

Leave Time: 5:45am From Rojo's we'll top our cars off with gas (some of the cheapest in the area btw) and head back up Rt.1 to 128/95 and from there take I-95 South onto New Haven, CT

Est Time: 2hr 18min's (um according to map quest here and well I'm pretty sure we'll be able to knock 18min's offa this time lol)

Meet Time: 7:30am @ Exit 46 New Haven, CT. There is a Gas Station right off of this exit on Sargent Dr. I forget exactly but I wish to say its a Shell Station. There is a mini-store and bathrooms there so its a great meet spot (plus a decent sized parkinglot to boot.

Leave Time: 8:00am By this time the MA leg of the Caravan will have already showed up in New Haven, CT and if time permits we will top off our gas tanks. We'll leave right away after us MA folks top our tanks off.
From here we'll head back onto I-95 South and head off to NJ. This is where it gets complicated and where I wish everyone will either goto Mapquest or Googlemaps and print up a copy of these directions. For now I'll type them up as Mapquest tells it to me

Take I-95 S (Crossing into New York) 69.1 miles

Keep RIGHT to take I-95 S torwards G W Bridge/ Lower Level/ Last NY Exit (Crossing into NJ) 2.5 miles

Keep LEFT to take I-95 Express Ln S / New Jersey Turnpike S torward I-80 / Garden State Parkway / Paterson. 2.5 miles

Take the I-80 W Exit 69 on the LEFT torward Garden State Parkway / Paterson 0.8 miles

Merge onto I-80 Express Ln W 3.2 miles

I-80 Express Ln W becomes I-80 W 16.6 miles

Take Exit 48 torward Montville/ Pine Brook .01 miles

Est Time: 1hr 50min (again same as before I'm willing to bet we'll be chopping off atleast 15-30mins offa this time.)

Now from here its off to the Dragway. I'm gonna ask either Chrism or Jason about this since the Directions that Mapquest gives me a route that cuts right though some backstreets and I highly doubt they are gonna take all 50 or so rotaries through some backroads.

So Who's Coming
1) Clavius (norwood, ma)
2) lowrdteg (hartford, ct)
3) otakurx (Might be in NYC/NJ bedford, nh)
4) holycross05 (possible atm)
5)genjuromikos (northshore, ma)
6) Bad Bob (Ansonia, CT)
7)

And yes you are correct, its early but you guys wont have any issues on the highways!!

this caravan is gonna be HUGE!!!!

10am at exit 48 off route 80 kk

I'm still not sure if I can make it to Rotorfest but if I do go I would probably spend the night before in Manhattan.

What time is the caravan rolling through the city?

Sweet.. Hartford area.. I'm thinking of making the CT stop in New Haven, CT since its right offa 95 and I've been there a few times myself.

Holy I hope you can make it! I'd atleast have a fellow NE owner whom I know (beside chrism of course ). I wish to say we'd be hitting NYC about 9 or so since my goal is to leave MA at 6am that and since I've traveled that way a few times already I know where I'm going for the most part so traveling will be less cautious.

^ I'm Hoping that we may possibly be meeting up with you guys as you hit I-80 but I think it will be pushing it and I dont wish to hold you guys up at all. Before the actual date Jason I'll ask for your number and as we near NY I'll give you a call and give you a ETA on when we'll hit the 95/I-80 switch. Again I dont wish to hold you guys up at all. Also rethinking my departure time of 6am might leave 30min's earlier to give ourselves some leway. Just hoping more people will sign up for this so I can start finalizing stuff but it is a month away as Chris told me so they shall (hopefully) start to show up.

Just updated the first post with those coming so far.
I did a mapquest to the I-80 exit 48 stop and its a 4 hour 10min trip but mapquest does the avg speed deal of like 60mph so for us it will possibly be more like a 3.5hr trip which will give us enough time to pick people up and also fill gas up haha.

I wish to say it was exit 47 or so in New Haven, I'll double check when I'm back at my own house which my mapquest has most of my travel local's saved. The Exit is right by the bay and comes out right near a gas station which would be a great place to meet up (Rx-8 at a gas station thats something you hardly ever see ). That and its right offa 95 and right back on. I meet Chrism, Adam I wish to say there once along with LilBenny and it was a great easy place to spot and meet up.

Ok so... So far a CT meet up point in New Haven is a definate I just have to look up my exit info to confirm the spot. Kinda disapointed no RI folk are hopping in so far. Gonna check Rx7club to see if anyone has jumped on board our "Southern New England Caravan" since they have a Northern one going at the moment (More for ME,NH,VT).

^ Dun worry Kel, Mapquest again says 4 hours and 10min's take into account that is a Avg speed of 65 we'll have plenty of time if we leave MA (or my hometown atleast) by 6am. I wish to leave around 5:30am or atleast set that as a goal to give us some leway. Also going to invest in those radio's to make staying in contact easier. Durring the weekend going to do a ruff draft once more of the final trip with times attached. Luckily this time around going through CT I wont have the Sun Setting hence all the cars coming to a 5mph crawl over every hill crest now that was annoying (and scary!!). Ok going to sleep now.

^ That's kewl and I dont blame ya man you had a bit of a hike compared to some of us.
Way its looking with timing we should be meeting up with the NYC Caravan just as they hit I-80 if not before! Why I'm hoping everyone decides to meet up at the start and mid points early so if everyone is there we can all just leave and not wait around

Ok guys 2 weeks to go here.
Since I know a few of you are not regulars to the board as much as me and a few others I know lol, figured I'd post this up now. I'm gonna need some phone numbers people!! Just PM me your real name along with cell #, and I'll reply with my own. I'm also going to look into buying a set of walkie talkies, a few friends in previous runs said these help out alot with communicating while driving that and they have a 3 mile range aparently.

Ahh whatelse.. oh first post is updated if you havent checked it out I suggest you do. That is all for now, I'm off to work whoohoo (blah! lol).
