Exclamation Rotary Convoy to Covered Bridges Run

Hey Folks:

Just want to gauge some interest on a potential run I have put together for my Miata Club but wanted to open it up to fellow RX-8 owners. My wife and I put on a "Dis-Covered Bridge" run for my Miata club a few weeks back.

We visited 16 covered bridges. Some we drove past, one we walked too, some we drove over and did a 180 turn around and many more we drove over and continued on our way. We had a full day trip planned from 9:30am to 5 - 5:30pm with multiple bio-breaks, stop for lunch and an ice cream stop. We will traverse western and south western NH.

Let me know if this interests folks and I'd be happy to take the lead to plan this trip up. I am shooting to do the run on Sat, Oct 14th.

Post up if your interested.

Thanks!

Looks like the ball is rolling. Anyone else interested in doing this run?

The whole route is just about 207miles, nice scenic roads, although there will be some dirt roads we have to go over. Not all covered bridges are on nicely paved roads.

For those folks going to the car show this Sat, I'll give some more info.

Absolutely interested.

Could this be done on the weekend of the 7th or the 21st instead?

I've already considered the date and it won't change. Being the President of the local Miata club, I have an event on Oct 7th and Oct 21st that take presidence.

I'll still make it - although - in that case, my 6 year old daughter in tow wouldn't crimp anybody's style - would it?? :-)

Nope it won't crimp anyone's style. This run is a not a "all ***** out, lets rip up the road" kind of run. We will be taking some nice twisty backroads but not at stupid speeds. Its more of a cruise to enjoy the sights and check out some cool covered bridges during the fall.

I'll be posting up some info regarding the run real soon.

Exclamation

Hey folks:

Here's a quick breakdown of the run:

Total bridges on the route = 16
Total bridges to walk over = 1
Total bridges to drive by = 3
Total miles of event = 224
Total bio-breaks = 2
Total ice cream stops = 1 (potentially 2)
Total lunch stops = 1

The day will consist of a relaxed cruise to visit some of New England's finest covered bridges. We will all meet at 9:00am at the Mobil Gas Station on Rt 114 in Bedford, NH. Departing time is 9:30am. Folks who need gas are in luck and those who need to grab breakfast, there is also a Dunkin Donuts in the Mobil Station.

Maps will be given out upon arrival along with some historical info on each bridge we will be visiting. Some of the bridges we will be just visiting, some we just drive over and do a turn-around back to the main road, other's will drive over and continue on our route.

Please keep in mind the following: WE WILL BE DRIVING OVER SOME DIRT/UNPAVED ROADS. If you do not want to take your RX-8 over these types of roads, then you are being fore warned now. To get to some of these bridges, we will need to traverse some unpaved and dirt roads. Speeds will be very low on these types of roads as to not intentially kick up dust and/or rocks.

Thanks and I hope to see everyone there!

OK, I will have to stay back from the person in front on the dirt roads. Will drive on them though.

No worries Oleg, we'll keep the speeds slow as to not kickup dirt/rocks on fellow 8 driver's.

i do have clear bra, but still thanks

(when i had my protege, i used to love pullin' a little ebrake on gravel roads.. almost bottomed out the car on a mountain road in NH once. but with the 8, a lot more careful/paranoid).

Tigger:

Yeah there are a few spots where we can snap up some pics at the bridge as there is little to no traffic. Should be a good time...

Might be cool to get a group shot at one of those bridges.

The one thing I forgot to attempt at the Car show on Saturday. I was kicking myself once I started to print up my photo's.

Maybe at that time there will be some nice fall colors in the backdrop to add to the photo. I didn't think of it at the car show either. There was so much to do, between finishing up detailing on our own cars, walking around to get ballots in, and grabbing a bite to eat. Didn't leave much time for socializing.

How's the head? Peeling yet?

KrysyGT, where are you in Newton? And what color 8? I am wondering if I've seen you around.

I am in for this.
