question about registering cars in MD

So, since I moved to MD, I'm trying to figure out how much I'm gunna have to pay to register my car in MD.

Looking at their website it states that for cars less than 7 years old, coming from a state that has no tax (DE) I would have to pay 6% of the value of my car. Is that true? If so, I'll have to fork out around $1040 to do it? WTF?

does anyone have the experience in doing this and if it is true or not?

Not a clue mikey but you may want to call the DMV to be sure. 6% is alot of money for sure. I dont see MD making anyone pay that because if thats the case its better to keep the car registered in DE.

yup,,, thats the way it is and its all because your state not having sales tax...that is to prevent people from living in MD and going into DE to buy a car and getting away with no sales tax...
So go thank your state for that one,,, and if I remember correctly you have only like a 6 month or so window to pay up....
yeah it sucks but then again you didnt have to pay it in the first place... good luck... we ll have to hang out soon again...

Don't forget $50 for a title, $20 more if there is a lien and $108 more for 2 years of registration, on top of the 6% excise tax.... Thank Martin Omalley for 1% fo the tax, $27 of the title, and $27 of the registration... It was far cdheaper just a year ago.
