NJ Tints & Inspection

OK, guys. Im up for my first NJ inspection on my 8 this month.
What can I expect in regards to my tints? I've heard:
1. They dont say anything about tinted windows (which I find hard to believe).
2. You fail and you have to take the car back to the inspection station to be re-inspected (not good). or
3. You fail & can get the car reinspected anywhere (which would be great as I can get a reinspection thru a friend's repair business).
What has been your experience or a friend's?
Thanks.

I would suggest you go straight through your friends repair business and see what happens there. Inspection laws have been getting enforced in the last few years.. but $ always talks!

Hopefully this will help clear up the tint law questions.

Here is the law the front driver, and front passenger side can not have any tint on them. The back 3 windows you can go as dark as you want. I do not like limo tint since it is hard to see out of at night. I went 30% on the back 3 windows and it looks good

Mine failed for the tints & my blue running lights. The inspector said someone may think Im trying to pose as a cop or an emergency vehicle! (How many 8 emergency/police cars are there in NJ?) I also failed for the gas cap which I didnt understand until my CEL came on & I reliazed the doot brain gas guy at WaWa probably didnt put my cap on tight!
I'll let you know if/how I circumvent the system if/when I do. I'll take it to my inspecton guy after the 4th holiday & see how I make out.

Finally got my 2010 sticker after some behind the scene wrangling on the part of my reapir shop friend. It seems the thing to do is: 1. Get friendly with someone who does inspections. 2. Go to them originally, not the DMV inspections. If you fail thru DMV, your registration goes into the system as "failed," and it's harder, if not impossible, for the inspector to circumvent the system for 45 days after your visit to the DMV inspection. 3. Get friendly with someone who does inspections.

$75; he said it's usually $125.

Did you go to RotoFest/RotoJam last weekend?
