Cool NJ laws

Does anyone know where we can lookup the current New Jersey laws for motor vehicles. I recently heard that you can't use door popers in NJ. You must have door handles for emergency purposes. Or the possibility of only using one license plate in the rear. I always see vettes without front plates. So is there some kind of special exemption? I think we need to find out what is and isn't true as far as what we can do to our cars.

You are required to have front plates in NJ. Some people just do not put them on. Very rarely will a cop pull you over for a missing front plate. Not worth the effort most of the time. But if I remeber right, it can be a very pricey ticket.

The Vettes just have not been pulled over yet. Not having a front plate gives the police a reason to pull you over, what happens next depends on many factors. So if you or your family are in good with the police you can drive around with the front plate still attached to the bracket in the trunk and say "it just fell off". That might buy you out of one vehicle stop. As for the ‘door Popers’ this is the best I could find with Google. Call that number they might have a web site or some printed information.

“Certain special equipment purchased in retail stores may not be approved for use on vehicles registered in New Jersey. To determine if such equipment is acceptable, contact the Office of Automotive Engineering and Equipment Standards at 609.292.8589 and provide the make and model number of the equipment intended for use.”

I've lived in NJ for 40+ years - front plates have always been required. I like the way the 8 looks without the front plate, so I ran without it - for 7 months until I got pulled over for it. I talked my way out of a ticket, then when home and installed the plate :-(

off topic a bit, but i cant stand how its illegal in jersey to pump your own gas. To the best of my knowledge, without the front plate in NJ is considered an equipment violation and it cost $46. No points :-)
Its not that I've been cited for that. I just happened to know ;-) Btw, I didn't put it on ever since I got my car in last Dec :-)

So long as Gas in NJ is still lower than most self serve states people will not wish to pump their own gas.

I'm actually surprised that they pull you over simply because they see you've no front plate on! You could very well be just another car from the neighbouring PA which requires no stinking front plate. Btw, which town did you get the ticket?

actually they pulled me over for not having my seat belt on and my windows tinted and not having the front plates. i'm just lucky they only gave me a ticket for front plates. the cop also knew me but he had to give me a ticket because there was a trainer cop with him, thats probably the reason why he pulled me over :/
This was in Lawrenceville

Looks like you probably get 'noticed' because of the window tint!

I like that attitude ;-)
