That's good to know.........I'm flying into Reagan National today for a visit in the Arlington area( ). Won't have my 8(obviously) but plan to take a drive while there when I can. Also wanna do some whitewater kayaking while there if I get a chance. I was gonna head somewhat towards West Virginia, that sound like a good plan? I have google'd anything yet.

Ryan.......I'm obviously not from that area, but Rosenthal Mazda in Arlington is a forum vendor on this site, and Tommy has help me and others out more than once. This isn't a recommendation.........but it's worth checking them out. Guys/Gals.......any inputs?

to the OP, welcome to the Northern VA area...enjoy- im not too far away from Falls Church. Definitely if you want basic work on your 8 check out Rosenthal Arlington Mazda. Good parts dept (finishlineperformance) and good service.

While that is generally true, Fairfax county has some great roads around the Clifton area. Some of them are:

Pope's Head Road
Hampton Road
Henderson Road
Wolf Run Shoals Road

and many more in that general area.

Watch out for VA state police. They are some of the strictest cops in the tri-state area... Hell I would not be surprised if they were some of the strictest (sp) in the country. Those cops do not play and seldom give breaks to anyone... Oh yeah If you have a lead foot like most of us do, I suggest you pay attention to the new driver fines too.

Welcome, think1st.

I'm in Vienna...just a little west of Falls Church. Bought my 8 at Rosenthal Mazda-Nissan at Tyson's Corner. Been very satisfied with their service. Just oil changes and routine recalls so far, but there are enough places that can screw that up. I see 8s rolling in and out all the time, so they're not one of those dealers who are scared of them. I've never had to wait for an appointment.

There's a Mazda club, http://www.mscw.com/ , that meets every month near Tyson's Corner. Have not been to any of their meetings yet, but I keep meaning to.

Ken

Front license plate law question

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but is it legal to display your front plate in your windshield in VA? I got a ticket, so I put my front plate back on, but it just looks awful. Please tell me I can put it in the windshield and quit looking like a beaver.

Peakster, you will just have to accept you live in a police state with @sshole cops (at least till the next election) who really are on a mission to make money. Also, if you like to drive fast, you better do so out of state!

Be happy you can at least have tint on your windows. I bought my red zoom-zoom in Fairfax Virginia. Beautiful tint job. I about cried when Maryland made me take it off.

Back to the original thread, nice to meet you think1st. I'm new to the forum, as well. If you want to hang out sometime, let me know.

Yeah, I'm not far from Falls Church at all. Welcome, you won't be able to move around w/ your 8, too much traffic, but there are some back roads if you venture out. When I had RX7s, I use to use a guy named Brett, he owns Rotary Performance out in Manassas, VA. He has a good shop, races, very knowledgable, and is fair with prices. I'd reccomend checking that shop out. I know there are a couple shops up in Maryland too, Peter Farell might work with RX8s, I'm not sure. I haven't been in the position for professional help with my 8 yet.

Oh yes! I got a ticket about a month ago in Fairfax, I lived in Florida for almost 4 years, never got a ticket. I've driven in VA for a total of 4-5 years and have recieved 11 equipment violations (although they don't really seem to care as much anymore, guess they lost the battle once auto makers made cars already hooked up), 3 reckless driving tickets, and 4 speeding tickets. It's amazing that I have a liscense, hahah I'm taking an online driving school right now, this is my 5th one! BE CAREFUL, I'm not much of a speeder, everytime I get nabbed it's when I'm not paying attention just crusing on along. I hate the state of VA and the Military Police opps I mean the cops that act like they are. Just be use to seeing a cop at every corner. I use a radar detector, they are illegal but only a $25 fine. Well close to $100 after you pay all the processing fees. Just be smart, I've never expereinced an area which cracks down so bad. Also just an fyi, I think Northern VA is the DUI capital of the nation so becareful if you leave a bar with a couple in you or consider using a cab.

Yes it's illegal, soon driving a rotary will haha. I got a ticket a few years ago for the same thing. The dumbest thing is that so many states don't require one. You're right, I hate having to have that on the front. Imagine if you had a Front Mount, I'd be so pissed if I had an EVO 8 or something. What a dumb law, I wish they had an association which lobbied to abolish such stupid laws, I'd donate a lot of money to create change in this state. I've heard that a lot of cops with laser/radar guns use the front tag to get the speed (big and flat target). Probably while they require it since the VA law enforcement is built to drive revenues for the state and harass and intemidate the over-taxed-paying citizens.
