new engine

so i go the the dealer yesterday and find out my car is running low compression and it needs a new engine. the dealer told me that it would take 2-3months to do the job and they wont give me a rent-a-car because thats not covered under the warranty. so idk what to do. if i trade it in they have to add $2000 on top of the new car cuz im not done paying it off. if i do trade it in im going to buy an evo or a rsx type s. i need some help on what to do.. oh and i forgot to mention the car had4 engines before i bought it. one every 10,000 miles

Go to wayne mazda. A few members here in the NE have been there, myself included, and they do great work. Also, one of the mechanics at wayne is a member on here and owns a 7 so at least you know someone there knows how to work on a rotary.

I would say probably not because there's alot that would have to be changed in order for that to happen, like getting a new ecu, new tranny, diff., driveshaft, gauges, etc. IMO...it's not worth swaping. Just trade it in for a manual

any warranty work should cover a rental... go to another dealer, and have them order the motor as you drive the car... then drop it off for the actual swap which shouldnt take too long.. maybe a week or 2

ok sounds good.. i need a rental car cuz i have to go to school lol and work. the thing that really got me tho was that the car had 4 previous engines. he blew an auto then had a manual put in blew that one too and then had two more autos put in. so this is going to be the 5th engine.

if youre out of basic warranty and on the 100k mile engine only warranty only the short block and labor are covered, any gaskets, rental fees etc must be paid by the customer. thats how the extended deal for rx8's work.

at wayne mazda it goes like this:
day 1: test compression, find low numbers, send to mazda, receive callback authorizing motor (or asking for further diag, back and forth we go until authorization for the right thing happens) then the motor is placed on order
day 2: shipping
day3: generally we receive the motor on day 3 and as long as the tech who diaged it isnt backed up it is begun to put in.
midday day 4: car is ready to go after being test driven and tested a few times to ensure quality.

i had one car in and out in 2 days, others have taken 2 weeks. lots of variables but the average right now is 3-4 days, esp[ecially how slow we are ATM its probably 5 days tops.

anytime we put a motor in the minimum parts ordered are new plugs (motors dont come with any, any reusing unknown age/condition plugs is stupid) and a full gasket set. I'm 99% sure you have to pay for the gasket set, mazda sends it automatically and always tells us customers pay for gaskets but i've never looked at customer's bills so i cant be positive. other things may be needed while doing the job, youll be called and asked for permission but we only do this if its 100% necessary so its sorta not smart to not agree (these motors are hard to make time on if everything doesnt go perfectly so waiting for your permission isnt something we look forward to so normally when you get a call it's a "must have" situation), feel free to shop around and get your plugs cheaper but have them in our hands before we begin the job (aka leave them in the car somewhere when you drop it off)

think that covers everything, feel free to ask questions, post your comp numbers too. mazda has really loosened up with RE motor approval since opening virginia, and the motors have been high quality.

kevin.

the dealership told me that they would not give me a rental car either its bullshit! call mazda's customer service or mazda america (forget exactly) and explain what is going on and they will override the dealership and get you a rental car. and my engine swap took 35ish days cause the motors are on "back order" hope that helps!

4 engines every 10,000 miles something seems fishy....

If your not having the common symptoms of a blown engine get a second or even third opinion before you waste your time or money.

yea forgot to add 4 motors in 10k means someone needs to be doing more diag work. I suspect something else going on. even our msot troublesome 8's havent had mroe then 2 motors.

04blue8: complaining to mazda about policy may help you get a free rental but don't burn bridges. mazda does take note of these things, believe me. theyre not "overriding dealership policy" its MAZDA policy with the rotary extended warranty. so you made mazda retract their own policy, they dont enjoy doing that .

i called up mazdaof america today and explained to them my situation. they are disgusted with how maxxon mazda took the sitaution and are taking further action and they talked to the central jersey mazda rep and he said to take it to crystal mazda and they will take care of me and i will get a rental car until my car is fixed. they said crystal mazda is the best mazda in my area so im going there now and seeing whats going to happen.
