Does anyone know how to diagnose a parasitic drain on your battery?

 

stick a multimeter at the battery posts when the car is off to verify that there is really a current drain on the battery and not just that the battery is losing its charge and needs to be replaced.

 

^I guess it could be a dud but it 2 months old optima..... Do you have a multimeter mine is in Brooklyn can you bring it Tuesday????

actually al, that isnt the proper way to do a parasitic draw test, both pins have to be on the negative side, in series with the battery, and it has to be on the amps settings

what your saying is only checking to see if the battery can sustain proper voltage after the charging system is off, that still wont tell you if something is on when it should be off, since voltage may not always drop when there is a parasitic draw

with cars now a days it takes about 40 minutes before you get a proper reading since most all the systems have to go into sleep mode before th measurment can become accurate

Bah droid for the win! is this the same steve jobs "Tablets are great for a bunch of rich guys who want to have a third computer." then he goes and makes them, and selsl a ton of them....... Ill be on the band wagon with apple once they open up to a developer community and stop pumping out new ipods and whatever else that hasnt changed much ever 6 months it seems. I like apple computers but when it comes to their accessories im not with it plus i have verizon lol. My boss has an ipad....hes a "rich guy" i just dont see spending money on that glorified ipod touch when i can buy a decent sized and powered laptop for the same price............Kel get the new iphone i want to check it out lol
