Noob checking in. I do not have a RX-8 at the moment. I only have my 1995 BMW 318i to keep my wallet light on the gas costs without losing RWD. I plan to purchase an RX-8 sometime in Nov-Dec of this year for weekend track/autocross duties.

Just wanted to say hey y'all. Got my 8 almost 2 months back and have been lurking around the forum ever since. I'll be driving my winning blue around Frederick and to/ from Annapolis on occasion. Hope you guys are having as much fun with your RX-8's as I am with mine!

I've postponed the Michael's Pub meet - Rain is predicted - will repost for late April. (we'll also have more daylight for a little parking lot tailgating in the evening)

Hello MDer's. Been hangin around the forums for a week or so and just discovered this thread. Bought my 2004 (new)Nordic Green Mica, 6 spd, GT packaged 8 a couple of weeks ago. I live in Bel Air and don't head south of Balt. often. If down south will definitly be lookin for any rotor powered vehicles. Holla at y'all later.

macnrx8 04-08-2005 09:30 PM

By the way....bmmcmillan, is your last name McMillan? My last name is MacMillan. Just wondering.

Cokerx7 04-11-2005 12:40 AM

Hey.. welcome to the thread... I met someone today with a silver 8 today.. it was in good shape.. More than likely it was stock.. I was wondering if you were here

TwoZooms 04-11-2005 04:26 PM

In a short 45-minute drive on a glorious Sunday afternoon, I saw no fewer than four RX-8s: a red one near Great Falls, MD, a silver one heading south on the outer loop of 495, a black one on the GW Parkway, and my own green one. What a great day for a drive!

Cokerx7 04-12-2005 01:38 PM

i had a bird shit on my car today.. :-(.. what way to start the day..

Cokerx7 04-13-2005 10:39 AM

Just a question.. do anyone know how many G's of force can a 8 handle...

cuz the 3gen can hold 1.02
2gen. .8-.9*
1gen. .82-.85*

*approx.

macnrx8 04-15-2005 08:23 PM

The range of G's for the Rx8 seem to be .90 to .92. The numbers are from a few different locations. I'm not sure if those are maximum numbers though. I will do more searching and let you know if I find anything new. I had an exciting ride this morning. Went to fishtail at an intersection and ended up facing the wrong way....Lesson learned---Be careful when road and tires cold. My pride was hurt, but not the car.

Hello macnrx8,

Yup, I use a really deceptive log on name :)

The last name is indeed McMillan.

Congrats on your new 8, I hope you love it as much as I love mine - the better weather has indeed brought all the 8's out of hibernation.

I normally run 95 between Columbia and Baltimore, 100 and 295.

Happy Rotaring!

Cokerx7 04-16-2005 04:28 PM

Mac... Nice stunt there.. how fast were ya going? i know ya didnt use any brakes (or did you)...

on certain exits.. i normally dont brake.. the speed limit on highway is about 65-70... for me i exit at that speed and drive on the highway from 80-100.. on average.. depending on how i feel... (i love the rotary!!!)

macnrx8 04-16-2005 07:00 PM

I was at a stop light waiting to make a left turn early in the morning. Started to make the left, slow roll, clutch in, reved engine a little and dumped clutch. I have done this numerous times over the past week when the streets and tires were warm without a problem. I have gotten pretty good at it (most of the time at 30 to 45 degrees and pulled straight), but yesterday I had just left the house and it was pretty chilly and the tires were cold. I realize now how different tire temperatures affect the traction. I didn't come close to hitting anything but there were a few cars waiting at the light and saw my manuever. Today I had a friend in the car and went to make a right turn in second gear at about 40 mph, hit the gas coming out and did a nice little power slide. My friend said his a** bit off part of the seat but it was fun. I am past the normal break in period and just want to push the car so that I know what it can do. I dont drive like this all the time, but this is my first RWD (or Rear Wheel Steering as I like to call it). The friend that was with me has a 99 Mustang Gt(540 whp-supercharged-dyno tested) but something always seems to break on it. He was very impressed on all aspects of the RX8 and said that if he could sell his car and get what he has put into it, he would get an 8 (he was dead serious). I haven't hit an exit at high speed yet. I'm sure it will handle great and look forward to it. Why brake for the exit, it will only get brake dust on the wheels right!!! Does anyone else have a good story? Love to hear it.

You should auto-x your car to get a feel for it... much safer for you and the general public ;) I'm in the same boat as far as this being my first rwd... coming from an awd ... so I plan to autox a few events to push the car a little and not worry about destroying too much in my path. rx-8s are extremely competitive so it should be fun :D

Cokerx7 04-18-2005 09:39 AM

Well i have a lil story.. after leaving the meeting in columbia... going home.. there was a lil ramp to the right.. and all the other 7's were behind me.. and so (for the first time) i hit the lil turn with no brakes.. tires skitting and it was great.. (no brakes of course).. i think i was going about 60 when i looked down at the mph gauge.. it was a great feeling..

ANYONE ELSE got a good story to tell?

macnrx8 04-24-2005 08:50 AM

Hey everyone!!!! Just got back from Jamaica last night. First, they drive on the opposite side of the car and the road. Second, 90% of the cars there are Toyotas. Third, most have small stainless mufflers and some kind of aftermarket rims. Of course there were Civics and Integras mixed in also. Some of them were clean but most were dirty( lots of dirt roads) and almost all were white. Whenever we had to go to the main road they were flying up and down it honking thier horns. They use horns to let other people know to watch out or if they are going to pass(in a friendly way), not because they're pissed off. Gotta go now, time to drive the 8 for the first time in a week. Excited!!!!

Cokerx7 04-24-2005 11:51 AM

Welcome back.. seems like fun.. down there any speed limit?

macnrx8 04-24-2005 02:27 PM

The speed limit down there is 50 km everywhere. Most drivers were hauling a55 because the police only set speed traps so everyone knew where they were. It was pretty cool, our driver would flash his headlights once (to ask oncoming cars if the cops were ahead), and the oncoming cars would flash back once for no and twice for yes. We saw two speed traps and they didn't have anyone pulled over. Our driver said most of the cops would take half of the money for the ticket to let you go. If you don't have it then they give you the ticket. Basically, anything goes on the roads in Jamaica. No lines on the roads. Many times our drivers would pass someone even when cars were coming and the oncoming cars would go slightly on thier shoulder to leave room. I guess Jamaicans are just courteous and make room for each other.

Cokerx7 04-25-2005 08:25 AM

that's cool.. i might have to arrange a trip to go there sometime over the summer.. or even the winter.. only if the states were like that.. but everyone is so much in a hurry and feel that no one should be on the road but them.. and are quick to sue someone..
